This Lunation is the first Full Moon in a long time where the Sun is in the same sign (Leo) as it was in the New Moon two weeks ago. This begins a new Sun/Moon relationship cycle, and returns us to a more concentrated and “natural” look at each sign’s Lunations. Some people are going to be very happy because this one opens a LOT of doors, so get ready to play!
This combustive, stabilizing, expansive, and expressive Full Moon which will help us to see a new future occurs at 5:02 am PDT, 1:02 pm BST on August 22, and falls at the 30th degrees of Leo and Aquarius. As with all Full Moons, use the light you’ve been seeing and expressing since the New Moon, and give it form and focus to see how to anchor those themes in expression. The New Moon showed us the Light of playing when “school is closed” and how to gain through life’s inconveniences. This Full Moon brings that Light of Potentiality to a New Light of Fulfillment through Leonine creative and/or spontaneous ourpouring expressed in visionary forms which show us how we are weaved into the larger “Web of Light/Life” in which we all live, breathe, and have our Being.
Today’s Full Moon post will be an overview of the Lunation and some of its primary qualities. In parts 2 and 3 we’ll cover the Sabian Symbols, aspects, distributions, and patterns.
An Overview
This Full Moon brings the Light of the Leo New Moon into a fulfilled expression! This Lunation is inspired, demonstrative, and is extraordinarily specializing with lots of special evolutionary configurations in play. This is a two week period of catching glimpses of our place in the infinite field of Light we share with all other sentient Beings.
This brings a time of higher Aquarian awareness through the Light of sharing and learning a higher, more unifed sense of selflessness. Because Jupiter is retrograde on the degree Mercury went stationary retrograde in January, we should see how what we’ve committed to since then has freed us, or protected us, or shown us a higher, broader understanding of the bigger picture since then. In other words, what became a Mercury retrograde threshold realization “guiding us to our Soul” in some way is now expanding, both inward and outward, due to Jupiter occupying that degree.
As with all Full Moons, use the light you’ve been seeing and expressing since the New Moon, and give it form and focus to see how to anchor those themes in expression. The New Moon’s theme involves joining with others in a public renewal, opening to new forms of releasing life energy in active expression involving new ways of communicating. That theme is now being brought to fruition via the Light of selfless sharing and nonpossessiveness expressed in a greater awareness of other Beings in the Light field.
So what can we expect from the Lunation? This one allows us to express our individuality in ways which are natural, heart-felt, and playful. While energies are widespread at this time, the Sun in Leo rules the stage of Life and brings a joyous renewal to those who open their hearts. Do not work at life; play with life! Do not work at relationships; play with relationships! See the possibilities dancing around as lightening the atmosphere even as a degree of protective self-interest is still necessary.
Past As Prologue
The 2020 Eclipses moved us all in new directions, reorienting wherever we have 1 Cancer, and has been removing blocks to our happiness wherever we have 24 Sagittarius since December. The most recent Solar and Lunar eclipses in Gemini have already begun to reorient our view and understanding.
Remember that all Eclipses are “Cosmic recyclers,” taking away what is obsolete or de-magnetized in our lives. These losses clean out psychic and physical spaces so newer life substance can come forth. We’ve cleared out many old ideas, truths, habits, and perspectives since last Summer, and now have a wider view and deeper ways of regarding our life and the Life around us at the beginning of a new Aquarian era for humanity.
On a different note, we’re still at the very beginning of a new 20 year and 200 year era! We “graduated into a new realm of being” in May 2020, navigated the nonstop storms of July through October 2020, and now have the momentum aiming us toward a greater social contribution which can outlive us. In 2019 and 2020 we built the structures which we’ll use in 2021 and 2022 to grow into a greater contribution to our world and lives.
As you know from other articles, 2020 was the last year of a 200 year Earth era, with Air power building throughout the year which primed the pump for the 200 year Air era which began on the Solstice with Jupiter conjuncting Saturn at 1 Aquarius. However, we will still be “under the beams” of last year’s powerful conjunctions in Capricorn, since between January and March 2020 we began new Saturn/Pluto, Jupiter/Pluto, Mars/Jupiter, Mars/Pluto, and Mars/Saturn cycles. The first of these launched a new 33 year era into motion.
Due to these conjunctions in late Capricorn and both Mars/Saturn and Jupiter/Saturn conjunctions at 1 Aquarius, we are in a long term period of finding wisdom by understanding transfiguration and enlightenment as verbs rather than nouns. We’ve now officially taken the first step into the coming Aquarian era. While this is not yet “The Age of Aquarius,” this is the final intensification of those energies which will sprout seeds in the second quarter of the century which will take us across the threshold of the Great Age soon after 2050.
Is the Sun Following the Moon, or the Moon Following the Sun?
This is the first of a series where the New Moon Sun and the Full Moon Sun are in the same sign! We can now take the “light of actional release” in new forms of social togetherness since the New Moon in Leo, and now apply it to new enlightened Leo ways of a fulfilled sharing and playful releases of energy.
There are two patterns; one is when the Full Moon Sun is the same sign as the previous New Moon Sun, and the other is when the Full Moon Sun is in the next sign from the Sun in the previous New Moon. Since August 2020 we’ve been in the latter phase, and this is the first of a new era!
The Sun was in the same sign in both the New Moon and Full Moon, the so-called “natural” order, between April 2019 and August 2020. At the August 2020 Full Moon we entered the “reverse pattern” of the Sun of the Full Moon occupying the sign after the New Moon Sun, since the previous New Moon Sun was at 29 Cancer and that Full Moon Sun was at 12 Leo. However, now that we had the New Moon Sun at 17 Leo and this Full Moon Sun is at 30 Leo, we’re back in the natural order for many months to come. You can find out more about the “seed forms” of the New Moon two weeks ago by checking out the articles in the archives in early August.
Planetary Distribution
In this Full Moon, the span occupied by the inner planets (in this chart the Sun at 30 Leo through Venus at 8 Libra) is 37+ degrees, a fairly wide span. This month we see all the inner planets moving through Leo, Virgo, and Libra. This will be the primary area stimulated in our charts. Usually there’s another planet close to the inners, but not in this chart.
We now are at a time of the year when the inner planets are at the far side of the outer planet occupied span, so that now (leaving out the Lunar position), we see two unoccupied spans of 104+ degrees on one side and 107+ on the other. This has created a See Saw Jones Pattern, with the “tension of opposites” created across 2 axes of oppositional awareness, these being Leo/Aquarius and Virgo/Pisces.
At this time we have the 10 traditional planets occupying 7 signs. Currently, the outer planet occupied span begins with Pluto in late Capricorn, then moves through Saturn and Jupiter in Aquarius, then Neptune in late Pisces and finishes with Uranus in mid-Taurus, with the inner planets and Mars now occupying Leo, Virgo and Libra.
In this chart Pluto resumes its role as the entry planet to the occupied outer planet span between Cap and Taurus. It will remain the entry planet for many years to come except when the Moon, inner planets, or Mars are in Sagittarius or early Capricorn. For the next two weeks, enter transpersonal transformative experience through Pluto’s purifying seed power.
As noted, the Jones patterns in the sky now change mainly due to the position of the Moon. With this Full Moon in Aquarius focusing 3 oppositions across two different axes, we now have a See Saw Pattern.
The See Saw Pattern and how it works
This type of spread, with two or more planets on one side of the map and the others on the other side of the map, with at least one or two oppositions to define the axis of awareness, creates a “See Saw” Jones Pattern. Where a See Saw pattern is present, stay focused and balanced at the center while taking note of the periphery of things, and don't get off on a tangent or limb.
The See Saw cautions us not to get marginalized or go off on tangents, and find a whole view to any opposition that can include both views and more. This shows a need to see all sides of any opposing views or trends. It gives an excellent ability to learn how to triangulate using approaches which transcend the polarity, as well as find ways to "draw a bigger circle" around any opposing forces that encompasses both phases of the polarization to create progress and understanding.
The Moon opens one side of the oppositional span which is closed by Neptune. The Sun opens the other side of the oppositional span which is closed by Mercury. So this is ultimately a purifying and transforming period of heightened awareness with huge potential to focus the spiritual energies represented by Neptune via the inner planet oppositions.
Is the Grand Irrationality A Factor in this Full Moon?
Because this section is so long, I decided to create an article which explains what it is, how long it’s been in effect, and which zones of the zodiac have been most impacted and when. You can find all you need to know about this configuration associated with widespread irrationality and hard-edged “forks in the road of destiny” we’ve all confronted at various times by going to The Grand Irrationality. I updated it in December, and incorporated a further look into the future.
We revisited the energies of the First Grand Irrationality (1993-2017) when both Saturn and Uranus were septile Neptune, Jupiter and Pluto were both biseptile Uranus, and Jupiter and Saturn were both septile Neptune not long ago. In this chart the configuration is not triggered in a strong way, since there is only a separating biseptile between the Sun and Uranus. I’ll speak more about it in part 3 when I cover the special configurations.
The configuration will be triggered when Venus, and then Mercury and the Sun transit the zone around 16-21 Libra, forming a Kite pattern with two triseptiles to Uranus and Neptune. These multiple 7th harmonic aspects put this “7-pointed Star of Destiny” evolutionary configuration into play. Obviously, this is triggered off and on throughout the year whenever a planet moves through any of the hot zones of the configuration. All of these transits bring choices, changes, and decisions affecting our future. These “Grand Irrationality” triggers are why things are so crazy and hard-edged at this time.
Saturn: Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend
Because Saturn continues to occupy center stage in its home sign of Aquarius, it continues to be the final dispositor of all planets transiting Capricorn and Aquarius from now through 2023. Though its influence temporarily waned during Jupiter’s occupancy of Pisces, when Jupiter retrogrades back into Aquarius Saturn will again be its ruler and resume being a dominant force through April 2022.
Remember that while Saturn can feel heavy, it is also our ability to take command of our lives and destiny by using Saturn’s virtues in the right way and time. Our ability to steer our “ship of personality” into its rightful “role of destiny” has brought us to the threshold of new parts to play on the stage of Life.
In 2019 we rehearsed and perfected roles and skills we needed in 2020 and beyond as part of the Saturn-Uranus “dance of individualization” in our lives. We’ve begun to crystallize present and future rewards, as well as new group work and roles opening new chapters in our “hero’s journey” into a higher quality of Being awakened by Uranus.
I explain how Saturn and Uranus awaken us to our Higher Powers to take conscious command of our destiny in my book Saturn: Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend. Saturn helps us give form and structure to our quest for Self-realization; in Capricorn, it teaches us how to accept and use personal power within a socially responsible context, while in Aquarius it teaches us how to make a greater contribution to our civilization and come together with others in a great effort “ensouled by a great vision.” Coupled with Uranus awakening a “new quality of Being rendering the old patterns obsolete,” we are collectively challenged “to break on through to the other side” in expressing our unfolding Higher Consciousness.
The book was written for both astrologers and non-astrologers. Even those with little or no understanding of astrology will benefit from understanding why you had to make certain choices at crucial times that shaped your life in profound ways.
Each time you read any section of this book you will find new insights about your power to throw off all the attitudes and memories which hold you back from finding and living the life and purpose. If you’ve haven’t already gotten your copy, you can go to the Saturn: Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend page on Amazon and this should be all you need to order your copy. It’s also available on Amazon and as an ebook on Kindle, so if that’s more to your liking, go for it! If you would, whether you’ve gotten the ebook or the paperback, please write a review on the Amazon site, since the more reviews, the more of a boost they give it.
On A Final Note
See you in the near future with parts two and three on this Full Moon which will help us share all kinds of things within the greater Light field. This will lead to major realizations about interrelatedness and what our hearts are into. In some ways the next two weeks gives us glimpses of our fulfilled realization of our Oneness and the ongoing larger transfiguration process all of humanity is going through. Shine with the Light of awareness of our Oneness, giving it form through a focus on togetherness. With the Sun at the end of Leo and the Moon at the end of Aquarius, this is a fulfillment Lunation helping us remember we can learn as much through our play as our work.
We continue to be in a time where caring, creativity, and kindness helps us prepare us for what’s coming in 2022. This is a year of completing the “vision of Transfiguration” and entering into a new life, with new revelations happening this month. Next year and 2023 will make our Transfigured Being “real” in our world. Recent eclipses are accelerating our elimination of all the ideas we cannot bring with us into our new life as they would scatter our energies.
The new roles and responsibilities we took on in 2019-2020 are leading us to new social effectiveness in 2021 and 2022. The compressions in Capricorn led us to forms of personal power, and being very long wave cycles, indicates our work for a long time to come. Again, look to where you have late Capricorn and early Aquarius in your chart to see the focus of coming years.
Because of the Mercury retrograde “bookend” theme of 2020, we now have found a higher, more diplomatic and dignified way of interacting with others over the past year. The October-November 2020 Mercury retrograde period gave us a look back to see how we’ve “raised our game” in our interactions, and its direct station at 26 Libra began the theme bookending 2021 involving how we use a combination of “soft power” and “hard power” to demonstrate spiritual adeptship.
We understand more about the year theme now that we’re done looking back during the recent Mercury RX period in Gemini. The February Mercury retrograde period gave us new information about expanding our dedication to our Soul’s ideal, and due to the events between February and now, we have a sense of where we’re at on the larger evolutionary ladder, seeing what must be left behind. Mercury’s station in May had a “pruning and shaping” theme which in June and July a) removed much which would obscure our chosen form of expression, and/or b) removed all which would obscure the knowledge we need to find. We now move forward unencumbered by mental clutter.
We’ve entered a new chapter in our spiritual journey at a fork in the road of our collective destiny. 2020 was about forging our connection with the World Soul, our Wisdom, and our greater dedication. We’re all wiser than we used to be, have been given ample opportunities to value our heart connections with our friends, and display the vaster spiritual awareness we share with our Brothers and Sisters.
I’ll see you soon when we’ll discuss Sabian Symbols, aspects, and other important chart factors.
