Which means that Saturn is making its first pass into the span of 19-26 Aquarius, where it will go retrograde in June! This begins the first of three transits over this part of Aquarius. Because it’s happening at the same time as Neptune also entering its shadow zone, it seems we’re in for long term spiritual lessons in late Aquarius and late Pisces for the rest of 2022!
The shadow zone is defined by the span between where a planet goes retrograde, and where it goes direct after the retrograde period. In this case, Saturn goes retrograde at 26 Aquarius on June 4. It will retrograde back to 19 Aquarius, where it goes stationary direct on October 22/23.
That puts the shadow zone between 19 and 26 Aquarius, and on February 22 Saturn enters 19 Aquarius, the degree where it’ll go SD in October. This year Saturn takes us between the actional-physical technique of management to the beginning of the mental-spiritual threshold marking the end of Aquarius. The great thing about this Saturn transit is that it is literally unafflicted except for a few points, and those are highly productive!
Last year featured non-stop squares between Saturn and Uranus, and they’re gone for the first 7 months of the year. We’ll experience the square again beginning August, so this direct transit will give us good Uranian skills during the squares from Mercury and the Sun in late April and mid-May, which are the only major frictional angles made during this direct motion period.
During this run of Saturn from 19 to 26 Aquarius, it makes a quindecile to Pluto and a binovile to Uranus the entire time. It makes a decile, elftile, and semisextile to Neptune, and receives a quindecile, semisextile, elftile, and decile from Jupiter. During late February, March, and the first part of April Mars is closing in on its conjunction with Saturn, marking the end of the Mars-Saturn cycle which began at 1 Aquarius on March 31, 2020. That was the initial pulse in the next 20 year era which began to expand at the Grand Mutation at 1 Aquarius in December 2020.
The Sun conjuncted Saturn at 16 Aquarius a few weeks ago. Mercury will conjunct Saturn at 19 Aquarius on March 2, beginning a time of receiving sign and signals about what the October SD station will bring. Because Venus and Mars are conjunct during late Capricorn and early Aquarius, they make the same aspects at the same time through mid-March.
They make a quindecile to Saturn in late February, with Venus making its conjunction with Saturn at 21 Aquarius on March 28, and Mars makes its conjunction with Saturn at 23 Aquarius on April 4. During March and April the only friction occurs in late March when the Sun and Mercury semisquare Saturn before the Mercury square Saturn in late April creating tension wherever we have 7-11 of the Cardinal signs and 22-26 of the Fixed signs. The span lengthens 2 degrees during the Sun square Saturn in mid-May which happens near the Venus semisquare Saturn during the second week of May.
Saturn direct helps us express mature responses to our world; Saturn retrograde gives us a different understanding, or a different angle of approach. Saturn RX can bring us echoes of old duties and responsibilities in new forms, or the return of attitudes of accepting “the wage of age.” Because it’s in the sector of the zodiac where we experience the group cooperation and vision of Aquarius, the first part of this year will help us to manage our material and social-emotional contributions as we play our part in the greater evolutionary Aquarian era.
The Saturnine understanding you receive over the next 3+ months will be clarified after the Sun opposes Saturn and then Saturn’s SRX degree in mid-August just after Mars squares Saturn at 23 Taurus. All the Taurus squares this year challenge us to ground the new Aquarian pulse in our lives both in our hearts and in our magnetism. The Leo and Scorpio energies we mastered in 2021 are now skills to be applied during the coming squares of 2022.
When Saturn goes SRX in May at 26 Aquarius, it will bring us all opportunities “to pick up and deliver spiritual power” based in how we’ve trained and managed our emotional and/or social energies since September 2021. This one allows us to begin our practicum in utilizing our “spiritual skills” in our own individual ways. Early April is a productive time to actively practice, with accomplishment evident beginning May.

My Natal Midheaven is at 19 Aquarius so I'm definitely feeling the immanence of this Saturn(Ian) motion and I'm also actively doing things (like working on my music and writing) that help create tangible (Saturn) manifestations (also Saturn) in my world. Also as Midheaven is the 10th House Cusp (as well as a Major Angle) I think the things we do when that area is active can indeed have spades of (Vision) as it's very much the view of things from the Mountaintop.
Thanks again Robert.
