This article covers significant aspects, degree symbols, and other important factors in this New Moon chart. This is a confirmation period of our new beginnings of February, March, and April. This continues our closure on old ghosts while reaping the abundance due us at the end of an old life and solidification of a new one.
The second decan of Taurus is where we see how our values and resources may be of service to our “Truth of Being.” With the stellium in Pisces, there will be a strange “end of the end of the end” type of energy even as the Taurus stellium nails some things into place. There are major rewards to be reaped for the work we’ve been doing, and this Eclipse will remove all which prevents us from the perfect harvest of “our garden of life and mind.”
This Lunation is focused on grounding the resources needed in building the platform of the dawning Aquarian era. This guides us to our Soul through new discoveries which will need evaluating, researching and rehearsing before we mobilize in that direction in June. And because all eclipses are “cosmic recyclers,” over the next month and several years we shall see many old values and old ways of valuing things disappear to be replaced with new forms establishing stability and worth in the future.
Long Term Effects of the Capricorn and Aquarius Compressions
We began multiple long wave Capricorn cycles in early 2020, and created more long wave Aquarian cycles between March and December 2020. If you want to know more about the four year sequence of The Great Compressions of Early 2020, 2021, and 2022, that article explains that in January through March 2020 we experienced the second of four consecutive compressions of planets. The first was in early 2019 when all the planets were bundled in about one third of the sky, called a Bundle pattern, which is the rarest of all. While the inner planets transited through all the other signs after that, we again hit maximum compression again in March 2020, and then expanded through the rest of the year.
This clustering happened again in 2021 in the last half of January into early February, with maximum compression was around January 19-21 when all of the planets were within a 101 degree span, creating a very intense zone of activity wherever we have late Capricorn through early Taurus. Four planets in Aquarius and two in Taurus made for a very crowded house, with 10 distinct energies occupying less than 1/3 of the total space.
We’ve now moved out of the final compression of the run with all the planets in this chart between Pluto at 29 Capricorn and Mercury at 1 Gemini. This year we hit maximum compression in early March, with all planets between 28 Capricorn and 12 Taurus, only 104 degrees! As all the inner planets are between Venus at 28 Pisces and Mercury at 1 Gemini, that area is most active in our charts at present. Though there will not be a compression in early 2023, there will be one more in early 2024.
Depending on the position of the Moon and the inner planets relative to the outer planets, different months bring us different Jones Patterns. These patterns operate their own independent influence, regardless of which planet is in which sign.
Currently, the outer planet occupied span begins with Pluto in late Capricorn, and proceeds through Saturn in Aquarius, Jupiter and Neptune in Pisces, and ends with Uranus in Taurus. (We don’t include TransPluto, since Jones didn’t use it in defining his patterns). Now that the inner planets are in Pisces and Taurus, they’ve made their conjunctions with Pluto and Neptune, and will finish in May after this year’s conjunctions with Uranus.
In this chart, we have two distinct clusters of the inner planets. The one in Pisces has 4 planets in a 16+ degree span, and the other in Taurus has 3 planets in a 4+ degree span. This New Moon continues the “Bundle” Jones patterns for several months which are happening except when the Moon is outside the occupied span.
The Bundle Pattern and how it works
This type of spread, with all the planets occupying approximately one third of the signs with two thirds unoccupied, creates “the least common of the seven basic differentiations,” and creates a “bunching of interests or the intensive self-gathering which is least responsive to any universal stimulus” and as Dr. Jones noted in a section on another pattern, a “special obsession with some particularly narrowed aspect of experience” which characterizes the Bundle people.
He continues that “the meaning of the concentration of the ten planets in one single third of the zodiac is that the course of the native’s life is held to certain narrow bounds of opportunism,” and they are “almost completely inhibited, in contrast with the outstanding lack of inhibition in the Splash pattern. He then goes on to say that “Characteristic of the Bundle type is an outstanding capacity for making much of little, or for building small beginnings into great and often unanticipated final results.” He also notes this type can mold their world “by some highly centralized force of self-concentration.” This type is not universal in the slightest, but rather “brings universe to center.”
With Pluto in Capricorn leading the concentration of planets, and thus the entry to the entire pattern, it shows we need to be efficient and disciplined in our on-going transformation as we embrace our power “to read the tea leaves.” As Pluto is relentless in its purifying power, this is a time to note the seeds of the future, and use “Economy of Energy” as the means to bring forth “mutations from Cosmos” as per the Saturn degree ruling all the planets in the sky.
With Mercury in Gemini closing the Bundle, the end of all experience will open up new discoveries of things we didn’t know before then. While this is only the first stages of this part of the Gemini process, it will be important to pay attention to what shows up these next four weeks, since 1 Gemini is the degree of the coming Inferior Conjunction! And I have no doubt that these themes will be activated when Mars crosses 1 Gemini in August. This leads with individual, mental, and spiritual Group Performance, and closes with actional Discovery.
The Outer Planets Anchor the Pattern of A Third of the Sky
In 2020 Jupiter entered the outer planet occupied span, and will be there for several years. Last year it made multiple conjunctions with Pluto, expanding and purifying that powerful energy wherever we have late Capricorn in our charts. After Jupiter’s third and final conjunction with Pluto in November, Pluto again leads the outer planet occupied span for decades to come as that occupied span opens up after Jupiter conjuncts Uranus and moves into Gemini in 2024.
That means we’ll have “competing conjunctions” in the larger global tides, since those Capricorn conjunctions will be in play for quite a while, along with the Mars conjunct Saturn coupled with the Grand Mutation Jupiter conjunct with Saturn, both at 1 Aquarius. The Aquarian conjunctions launched a new 20 year and 200 year era, so take a look at how you organized, reorganized, or restructured your life in 2020 and see how you prepared to find power flowing to you and from you as we all move into a vaster tide of evolution related to long term Aquarian wave forms.
In this New Moon, as mentioned earlier, we have two very intense occupied spans making these the primary personal focus. The first is Mars, Neptune, Venus, and Jupiter between 12 and 28 Pisces, and the second is the Lunation and Uranus all between 11 and 15 Taurus. This month the inner planets are fairly spread out between three signs across 62+ degrees, woth late Pisces and mid-Taurus VERY highly active these next 4 weeks.
The Sabian Symbol for the New Moon
A New Moon sets the seed forms for what the following month will demonstrate. This Lunation falls at 11 Taurus, and it is said that the second third (decan) of any sign deals with the social, emotional, and cultural levels of life, and being the second decan of Taurus it has a sub-influence of Virgo with an added dose of the Moon. While I've given you a sense of this degree up to now, this is where we go into depth.
The Sabian Symbol we’ve been given for the 11th degree of Taurus is “A woman sprinkling flowers.” In the original notes from the Marc Jones class on the symbols published in The Astrology of Personality, Rudhyar says this degree is one of “man’s and nature’s creative partnership[ of service and beauty,” and “Nature’s rich response to man’s care or lack of care.”
In The Astrological Mandala, he goes on to say that this degree is about “development of the powers of the mind on which ego-consciousness is based.” He speaks of our “psycho-mental nature” taking form from “the fulfillment and transcendence of biological functions and drives,” where consciousness attaches itself to a “flowering expression” so our ego can develop.
The garden represents our ego which requires constant care, cultivation, and weeding so our best ego can come forth. I prefer to use the phrase “the garden of life and mind,” since each of these is cultivated throughout our lives, and as we use our understanding and curiosity to improve our knowledge of what to do and why to do it, we create our lives in the future. He says this degree falls in the Span of Experience, Act of Differentiation, and Scene of Substantiation on the Individual, mental, and spiritual level.
Dr. Jones says this is a degree of “the soul’s determination to give constant and tangible manifestation of its creative powers,” and of our instinct to pour our soul into the potential which calls it. He speaks of “an easy and rewarding partnership” between us and natures, where nature rewards us profusely which matches our “inner generosity of spirit.”
He offers that as we feel “responsible for the welfare of (our) world” we reap great rewards for our interest. He offers us the keyword CARE, and states that when operating in a positive manner, this degree is “the high stewardship by which (we) build everything around (us) into an enduring organism for (our) own fulfillment.”
So the specific theme of the next month involves us seeing how Nature has rewarded our care and diligence in cultivating our “garden,” whether of life, ego, or service. It will also be a good time to review how past abundance or “crop failures” of our life or ideas involved removing old ways of dealing with things and embracing new ones.
Important Aspects
Remember that in reading a Lunation chart (as well as a horary, inceptional, electional, or any event chart) the forming aspects show things to come, while separating aspects show things already past. Partile separating aspects show what’s been going on in the Now. This section covers only forming and partile separating aspects.
We’re now coming out of the great compression of planets I spoke of earlier, since now we have 4 in mid-to-late Pisces, and 3 in the middle of Taurus and Mercury at 1 Gemini. As a result, there are no aspects wider than a trine, with most no wider than a sextile.
The Lunation features a semisquare to Venus, sextile to Mars, a semisquare to Jupiter and Neptune, a conjunction to Uranus, and a biseptile to Pluto; Mercury is binovile Mars and bielftile Neptune; Venus is conjunct Jupiter, semisquare Uranus and sextile Pluto; and Mars is vigintile Saturn, sextile Uranus, conjunct Neptune, and semisquare Pluto.
Outer planet aspects feature Jupiter elftile Saturn, semisquare Uranus, and sextile Pluto; Saturn is binovile Uranus and quindecile Pluto; and Uranus is as usual septile Neptune.
As you can see, there are no major frictional aspects, even if there are NINE semisquares! Some are waning, while some are waxing, showing the friction of the dissolution of the old cycle (waning) or the inner crisis of emergent choices (waxing).
Special Configurations in Evolutionary Astrology
This month because of so many interior angles, there is only one evolutionary configuration directly in play, the Grand Irrationality.
The evolutionary configuration known as the Grand Irrationality is triggered by the Lunation making a biseptile to Pluto and Uranus making a septile to Neptune. Both the septile and biseptile generate voids in other signs which are triggered by transits and triggering choices and changes to any planets or points we have near any of the 7 affected “hot zones” around 27 Capricorn-3 Aquarius, 19-25 Pisces, 10-16 Taurus, 1-7 Cancer, 22-28 Leo, 13-19 Libra, and 5-11 Sagittarius. So this month blends both versions of the Grand Irrationality, with Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto all in a 7th harmonic aspect to another planet!
Explaining Harmonics
This month we have a mixed bag of aspects in the various harmonic series. In the specialization harmonic series, we have only 1 vigintile and 1 quindecile. The 9th harmonic gives us only 2 binoviles. All novile series (9th harmonic) indicates things which need to be put on the shelf for a while, or that which has been gestating can now move forward. If you want to know more about this important “spiritual gestation” series which mark points of potential spiritual realization and integration, there are several articles in the archives.
This month we have 1 elftile and 1 bielftile in the 11th harmonic series. In the nonrational septile series, we have a huge drop from last month’s 9 aspects to this month where we have 1 septile and 1 biseptile. The 11th harmonic series indicate that faith is required to deal with transcending some dualities, and 7th harmonic aspects indicate forks in the road of destiny.
The novile (9th harmonic), septile (7th harmonic) and elftile (11th harmonic) series all feature spiritual aspects. All novile series aspects represent gestative energies that can lead to great spiritual realizations. Septile series aspects represent forks in the road of destiny, while the elftile series aspects represent issues and points of evolution where we confront the need to resolve some sort of duality by making a leap of faith to attain a form of mastery over that type of duality. This series tests our faith.
The quintile and biquintile (5th harmonic) and related 10th (decile and tredecile), 15th (quindecile), and 20th harmonic (vigintile) aspects are all specialization aspects. You can find more by going to Astrology Class on the Specializing Aspects Pt. 1 – The Quintile and Biquintile, and Astrology Class on the Specializing Aspects Part 2 – The Decile, Tredecile, Quindecile and the Vigintile.

Element Balance and Who’s Leading the Sun
This month returns us to a radical imbalance in the elements, with the 10 traditional planets occupying 5 signs and a slight imbalance between cold than hot. We have 0 planets in Fire (inspiration and warmth), 4 planets in Earth (practical grounding), 1 in Air (relatedness and communicating), and 4 in Water (feelings and experiencing). This month we have Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces, Taurus, and Gemini represented, with no planet in the other signs.
Air and Earth are “cool” elements, while Fire and Water are “hot” elements. With this distribution, it’s fairly balanced between heat and cool, with all the heat provided by the Pisces stellium. However, because of the preponderance of Earth and Water, the former will keep it grounded and the latter will keep it fluid. This combo makes either mud or bricks, depending on how you work with the material. So while some will find a sensitivity as they organize things so they further an “enlightened self-interest,” others will find themselves “stuck in the mud” of defensive calculations.
Because the New Moon falls in mid-Taurus, Venus conjunct Jupiter in Pisces is the “Gateway to the Light.” By seeing our past, present, and future abundance, perfectly suited to our needs, we’ll find the blessing which opens us to the “Light of the Garden of Life and Mind.”
The current sequence at present of Deciding, Feeling, and Thinking
We’ve been through several different sequences over the past few months. There are six patterns, and each has their strengths and weaknesses. This Lunation continues the pattern from the Full Moon two weeks ago. As a process of moving through events, the most effective “firing sequence” for approaching life and experience over the next two weeks involves leading with our feelings, then making decisions on the basis of what we experience, and then following through by finding a new vision, a new understanding, a new communication, or a new way of seeing how to do things.
This pattern is good at following a hunch or a feeling into decisions and actions. The tendency is to feel our way into decisions and actions, with the caveat not to immediately return to more “playing of hunches.” Instead, after we decide and/or act, it will be important to get new information to come to a new vision or understanding. Once we get the right view or understanding, then a new feeling-experience will naturally arise that points the way to the next action.
This pattern leads with feeling the way to decisions based on those impressions, after which there is a need to seek out new ideas, new interpretations, and new views. We’ll be “feeling our way” into new experiences, then deciding and acting on the basis of those feelings. After a decision or action, then we’ll have to find newer, more up to date information, facts, and understanding so we can get a new vision.
This pattern has a gift for learning and teaching through anecdotes. This helps communicate how others handled things practically, or how you handed things practically in the past. Let your thinking and communicating and envisioning follow your actions, and let your feelings follow a new understanding, a new perception, or a new view.
Summing Up
This New Moon Solar Eclipse in Taurus will remove many things obstructing our security and ability to harvest what we need from our on-going cooperative dance with Nature. Because Pisces is still so strong, we’re still being given harvest for our faith, compassion, empathy, and ability to see and feel a vaster tide lifting all of us to prepare for a future which is coming like an express train. We’ve renewed the Aquarius vision and/or our sense of how to contribute spiritually to the emerging era, and the coming weeks requires we show strength as well as compassion as we establish the ground of sustainment for the rest of 2022.
Venus and Mars renewed the new Aquarius cycles into motion in March by their conjunction with each other at 1 Aquarius and their conjunctions with Saturn. Now Venus and Jupiter have conjuncted Neptune with Mars on the way, showing a very crowded house wherever we have Pisces in our charts! Suppose you had a boat with 12 rooms, and suddenly 7 people showed up in only two of them. All of this happening with a dreamscape getting denser by the minute, with thick fog rolling in and the need to navigate by instinct rather than visual references. The next few weeks prepare us to be more volitional in our responses as we approach our time of testing requiring we utilize spiritual power effectively.
Because of so many planets in Pisces, learn how to flow within the uncertainty, the expanded feelings, the sense of universal emotions running the gamut from sorrow to ecstasy. Stay in good humor as there are rewards and abundance promised by this Eclipse! Pisces is where we feel all there is to feel, for better or worse. Just remember that sometimes what you’re feeling can’t be taken personally, and should be regarded as your inner “witness conscience” feeling something which needs compassion or forgiveness.
During the coming few months many who have trained will begin to be able to “know at a distance,” and send compassionate thoughts to those who need it. If circumstances warrant it, be willing to find silent or unobtrusive ways to bless the endings for those who are most afraid of letting go.
In 2020 we entered a transition phase in human history. While we still have to function within the Capricorn cycles we began in 2020, we also have crossed the threshold of an era unknown to humanity since the 13th and 14th centuries. Even then, we were still in the depth of the Age of Pisces, so the awakening of new ideas then were relative to the old era, whereas what’s coming involves wave after wave of Aquarian energies, pushing us to the coming Great Age emerging in the second half of this century.
The long wave Aquarian pulses were initially set into motion by the Mars conjunct Saturn at 1 Aquarius on March 31, 2020, marking the initiation of archetypal Aquarian preliminary structures offered by Saturn. The promise and potential of the new Aquarian pulse then began to expand into a greater social and cultural vision beginning at the Jupiter conjunction with Saturn, the Grand Mutation of the Solstice also at 1 Aquarius. So we have 20 years of Aquarian energies set into motion by that conjunction!
As noted, when Venus and Mars conjuncted at 1 Aquarius in March 2022 it gave a new impetus and new expression to the Aquarian structures which took shape in 2021. The next time Mars transits Aquarius will be in February and March 2024, when it conjuncts Pluto at 1 Aquarius in February about 3 weeks after Pluto’s first ingress into Aquarius. That begins the Pluto in Aquarius “generation” of the 21st century which lasts until 2043. As there will be a Jupiter conjunction with Pluto at 15 Aquarius in 2033, we’ll see the “expansion of the Angels of the Age of Aquarius” at that time.
2021 opened a new adventure for all of us, and the long term “metamorphosis” we went through showed us what the beginning of the coming Age of Aquarius is about. Last year helped us remember we are Beings of Light, a Superstar shining the Light of our Eternal Love into our world. We’re now expanding that promise and we’ll see developments related to this evolutionary leap beginning this month.
New groups of Spiritual communities formed last year and will continue to form this year, and those which are Aquarian in nature were “lifted on the wings of angels” in 2021. Trust the process. We are learning not to play to the generic confusion, irrationality, and misleading notions. Revolution is in the air! And when you find things and people of eternal worth, value them with all your heart.
Saturn: Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend
Saturn continues its long term occupancy in its home sign of Aquarius. While we’ll still be focused on the group work set into motion last year, we are now experiencing Saturn’s late Aquarius qualities. It was a major influence in the 2018, 2019, and 2020 Eclipses, continuing its years-long power behind events.
