This article covers significant aspects, degree symbols, and other important factors in this New Moon chart. This continues to confirm our new beginnings of February, March, and April while giving us a chance to adjust the trajectory. This one launches forms of enjoyable self-transcendence.
The first decan of Gemini is where we explore the infinite facets of what we secured or confirmed about our “Truth of Being” in Taurus. We are now done with the strange “end of the end of the end” of the past two months and have some solid momentum toward a new way of Being, thanks to 2 planets in Aries, 3 in Taurus, and 2 in Gemini. Use the momentum wisely, since we want to make as much progress in these new directions as possible before the late Summer and Autumn square between Saturn and Uranus, which promises a return of old conflicts challenging us to know what’s pertinent and disregard the rest. Add Mars slowing to retrograde in late September, and we have a perfect storm for things crashing to a halt.
This Lunation is focused on grounding the resources needed in building the platform of the dawning Aquarian era and exploring how to change the momentum or trajectory in some way. This guides us to our Soul through seeing to the core of things and find ways to offer our wisdom to others. The eclipses continue their “cosmic recycler” purpose removing old “weeds in the garden of life and mind” and help us efficiently adapt to changing conditions, getting clear about our heart’s desire and role to play. Many old values and old ways of valuing things are disappearing, to be replaced with new forms establishing stability and worth in the future. Sometimes courageously leaping into the future brings unexpected rewards!
Long Term Effects of the Capricorn and Aquarius Compressions
We began multiple long wave Capricorn cycles in early 2020, and created more long wave Aquarian cycles between March and December 2020. If you want to know more about the four year sequence of The Great Compressions of Early 2020, 2021, and 2022, that article explains that in January through March 2020 we experienced the second of four consecutive compressions of planets. The first was in early 2019 when all the planets were bundled in about one third of the sky, called a Bundle pattern, which is the rarest of all. While the inner planets transited through all the other signs after that, we again hit maximum compression again in March 2020, and then expanded through the rest of the year.
This clustering happened again in 2021 in the last half of January into early February, with maximum compression was around January 19-21 when all of the planets were within a 101 degree span, creating a very intense zone of activity wherever we have late Capricorn through early Taurus. Four planets in Aquarius and two in Taurus made for a very crowded house, with 10 distinct energies occupying less than 1/3 of the total space.
We’ve now moved out of the final compression of the run as the planets begin to extend into Gemini. This year we hit maximum compression in early March, with all planets between 28 Capricorn and 12 Taurus, only 104 degrees! Now that span has extended between Pluto at 29 Capricorn and the Lunation at 10 Gemini, a 130+ degree span.
As all the inner planets are between Mars/Jupiter at 4/5 Aries and the Lunation at 10 Gemini, that area is most active in our charts at present. Though there will not be a compression in early 2023, there will be one more in early 2024.
Depending on the position of the Moon and the inner planets relative to the outer planets, different months bring us different Jones Patterns. These patterns operate their own independent influence, regardless of which planet is in which sign.
Currently, the outer planet occupied span begins with Pluto in late Capricorn, and proceeds through Saturn in Aquarius, Neptune in Pisces, Jupiter in Aries, and ends with Uranus in Taurus. (We don’t include TransPluto, since Jones didn’t use it in defining his patterns). Now that the inner planets are in Aries, Taurus, and Gemini, they’ve made their conjunctions with Pluto and Neptune, with the Sun and Mercury already finished with their conjunctions to Uranus, and Venus and Mars’ conjunctions yet to come.
In this chart, we have one distinct cluster of planets in Aries, three planets spanning Taurus, and the Lunation. The Aries cluster has Mars, Jupiter, and Chiron in a 11+ degree span, and the Taurus span has Venus, Uranus, and Mercury in a 24+ degree span. This New Moon is the last “Bundle” Jones patterns for several months, though of course when the Moon is outside the occupied span it creates Bowl, Bucket or Locomotive patterns.
The Bundle Pattern and how it works
This type of spread, with all the planets occupying approximately one third of the signs with two thirds unoccupied, creates “the least common of the seven basic differentiations,” and creates a “bunching of interests or the intensive self-gathering which is least responsive to any universal stimulus” and as Dr. Jones noted in a section on another pattern, a “special obsession with some particularly narrowed aspect of experience” which characterizes the Bundle people.
He continues that “the meaning of the concentration of the ten planets in one single third of the zodiac is that the course of the native’s life is held to certain narrow bounds of opportunism,” and they are “almost completely inhibited, in contrast with the outstanding lack of inhibition in the Splash pattern. He then goes on to say that “Characteristic of the Bundle type is an outstanding capacity for making much of little, or for building small beginnings into great and often unanticipated final results.” He also notes this type can mold their world “by some highly centralized force of self-concentration.” This type is not universal in the slightest, but rather “brings universe to center.”
With Pluto in Capricorn leading the concentration of planets, and thus the entry to the entire pattern, it shows we need to be efficient and disciplined in our on-going transformation as we embrace our power “to read the tea leaves.” As Pluto is relentless in its purifying power, this is a time to note the seeds of the future, and use “Economy of Energy” as the means to bring forth “mutations from Cosmos” as per the Saturn degree ruling all the planets in the sky.
With the Lunation in Gemini closing the Bundle, the end of all experience will open up new discoveries of things we didn’t know before then. This illuminates and powers up the Gemini process we began during Mercury’s stay there in May. I have no doubt that these themes will be activated when Mars crosses 10 Gemini in August. This leads with individual, mental, and spiritual Group Performance, and closes with emotional and social Discovery.
The Outer Planets Anchor the Pattern of A Third of the Sky
In 2020 Jupiter entered the outer planet occupied span, and will be there for several years. Last year it made multiple conjunctions with Pluto, expanding and purifying that powerful energy wherever we have late Capricorn in our charts. After Jupiter’s third and final conjunction with Pluto in November, Pluto again leads the outer planet occupied span for decades to come as that occupied span opens up after Jupiter conjuncts Uranus and moves into Gemini in 2024.
That means we’ll have “competing conjunctions” in the larger global tides, since those Capricorn conjunctions will be in play for quite a while, along with the Mars conjunct Saturn coupled with the Grand Mutation Jupiter conjunct with Saturn, both at 1 Aquarius. The Aquarian conjunctions launched a new 20 year and 200 year era, so take a look at how you organized, reorganized, or restructured your life in 2020 and see how you prepared to find power flowing to you and from you as we all move into a vaster tide of evolution related to long term Aquarian wave forms.
The Sabian Symbol for the New Moon
A New Moon sets the seed forms for what the following month will demonstrate. This Lunation falls at 10 Gemini, and it is said that the first third (decan) of any sign deals with the actional, physical, and material levels of life, and being the first decan of Gemini it has a sub-influence of Gemini with an added dose of Jupiter. While I've given you a sense of this degree up to now, this is where we go into depth.
The Sabian Symbol we’ve been given for the 10th degree of Gemini is “An airplane falling.” In the original notes from the Marc Jones class on the symbols published in The Astrology of Personality, Rudhyar says this degree is one of “capacity to plunge into experience without surrendering one’s principles or self-control” and “Self-expansion through sacrifice.”
In The Astrological Mandala, he goes on to say that this degree is about “a superior ability to challenge nature and play with danger.” He states “through the controlled use of mental powers (we) are able to challenge the most basic force in Nature: gravitation.” He offers that what we are challenging is both within and without, which we might consider as inertia or momentum, whether physical, emotional, or mental.
He speaks of “gravitation is the universal binding force of the material world,” and as we master it, we prepare for activity on “the higher realms of existence.” He offers this phase has a sense of finality, where “no possibility of half measures exist,” and being “committed irrevocably to success or failure – as a conscious and self-reliant mind.” He states the alternatives presented are “mind vs. matter, or as (Human) will power against the fate that gravitation so aptly symbolizes.” He says this degree falls in the Span of Zeal, Act of Differentiation, and Scene of Discovery, and is the final degree of the emotional and social levels of existence.
Dr. Jones says this is a degree of our capacity “to plunge into experience with a complete disregard of consequences, or to act in full independence of those sustainments wich (others) have accepted as limitation.” He speaks of “an expectation of righting the dive, thus re-establishing control of the flight as suits a conscious purpose.”
He reminds us that as we release in one area of our lives we prepare to grasp something else in another. He offers us the keyword CRISIS, and states that when operating in a positive manner, this degree is “the highly advantageous reorientation of selfhood through every issue.”
So the specific theme of the next month involves us seeing how to shift the momentum of things (however that applies to us) and use our minds to move the inertia in new directions which are in our future self-interest. When in doubt, reorient!
Important Aspects
Remember that in reading a Lunation chart (as well as a horary, inceptional, electional, or any event chart) the forming aspects show things to come, while separating aspects show things already past. Partile separating aspects show what’s been going on in the Now. This section covers only forming and partile separating aspects.
We’re now coming out of the great compression of planets I spoke of earlier, since now we have 2 in early Aries, 3 across all decans of Taurus, and the Lunation in mid-Gemini. As a result, there are no major aspects wider than a trine, with most no wider than a quintile.
The Lunation features a decile to Venus, a bielftile to Mars and Jupiter, a biseptile to Saturn, a quindecile to Uranus, a quintile to Neptune, and a quadraelftile to Pluto; Mercury is quindecile Venus, septile Mars and Jupiter, square Saturn, sextile Neptune, and trine Pluto; Venus is decile the Sun, bielftile Saturn, and decile Neptune; and Mars is conjunct Jupiter, novile Saturn, novile Uranus, and bielftile Pluto.
Outer planet aspects feature Jupiter novile Saturn, novile Uranus, and bielftile Pluto; Saturn is binovile Uranus and semisextile Neptune; and Uranus is as usual septile Neptune and tredecile Pluto.
As you can see, there are no major frictional aspects, and an unbelievable number of spiritual aspects from the 9th and 11th harmonic series. Some are waning, while some are waxing, showing revelations coming and going as we exercise conscious leaps of faith in the process of mastering some life dualities. These may be times when “it’s great to see a plan come together,” but it can also push us into being good jugglers who better be quick!
Special Configurations in Evolutionary Astrology
This month despite of so many interior angles, we have more evolutionary configurations in play than we’ve had in many months. As noted, these involve a lot of spiritual aspects of revelation and faith in various combinations, since two configurations directly involve Mars and Jupiter, two VERY powerful players on the stage right now! In no particular order, the configurations are:
1) Mars and Jupiter novile Saturn and novile Uranus, cutting the Saturn binovile Uranus in two. These 9th harmonic aspects deal with emergent realizations (waxing) or closing realizations (waning), with the waning binovile the spiritual realizations which come after the waning square. There is a need to see how things which seem to point in opposite directions share the same base. This opens powerful resonant points around 3-8 Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius, 13-18 Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn, and 23-28 Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius. If you have a planet or point in these zones, either you’ll understand something you’ve been waiting for, or you’ll realize something needs to cook a bit longer before coming out of the over.
2) The Lunation bielftile Mars and Jupiter and quadraelftile Pluto, with Mars and Jupiter also making bielftiles to Pluto, cutting the Lunation to Pluto aspect in half. In both cases Mars and Jupiter cut the larger angle in half, creating a very tight “three note chord” of energy, in this case dealing with the 11th harmonic qualities of demonstrating forms of faith to resolve certain types of dualities. The bielftile is similar to the binovile, in that it is always the counterpoint to the elftile in the waxing phase and the preceding point in the waning phase.
The Lunation in waxing angles to Mars, Jupiter, and Pluto shows as emergent leaps of faith related to how we can use Aries expansion and action to demonstrate spiritual Plutonic seeds of individual spiritual responsibility. The Gemini adds the discovery factor also requiring leaps of faith both in how we do the Aries expansion and how to find ways to manage momentum of Plutonic seeds already sprouted for better or worse.
3)The Lunation is quintile Neptune, and Venus cuts the quintile into two deciles. The quintile is specialization, and the decile, or semi-quintile, is a partially developed creativity or gift. This is a favorable multi-level internal and external specialization, and most affects those with planets or points near 1-5 Taurus/Scorpio, 7-11 Gemini/Sagittarius, 13-17 Cancer/Capricorn, 19-23 Leo/Aquarius, and 25-29 Pisces/Virgo.
4) Mercury is sextile Neptune and trine Pluto, yet another time when the larger aspect is cut in two by a third planets. These “interior” configurations are very powerful in personal sorts of ways. They are always present in endings and beginnings. This double sextile trine is favorable for any planets or points we may have between 24 and 30 of the Earth and Water signs.
5) The Lunation is biseptile Saturn, bringing all of us to a crucial fork in the road of destiny related to how we redirect the momentum based in our ability to demonstrate using spiritual power effectively and wisely. The choices we make now will determine what shows up when Mars biseptiles Saturn in late August and again in mid-January 2023. Affected zones at present are 24-28 Aquarius, 16-20 Aries, 8-12 Gemini, 27 Cancer-1 Leo, 18-22 Virgo, 10-13 Scorpio, and 2-6 Capricorn.
6) As usual, the Grand Irrationality. The evolutionary configuration known as the Grand Irrationality is anchored by Uranus septile Neptune, and in this chart it is not triggered by any of the other planets. This is a long wave configuration affecting all of us for the past 30 years. At the present time, choices and changes are triggered for those who have planets or points near any of the 7 affected “hot zones” around 2-6 Aquarius, 24-28 Pisces, 15-19 Taurus, 7-11 Cancer, 28 Leo- 2 Virgo, 20-24 Libra, and 11-15 Sagittarius. So this month blends both versions of the Grand Irrationality, with Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto all in a 7th harmonic aspect to another planet!
Explaining Harmonics
This month we have a mixed bag of aspects in the various harmonic series with a heavy concentration of spiritual aspects. In the 10th and 24th harmonic specialization series, we have 3 vigintiles, 3 deciles, 2 quintiles, and 1 tredecile. The 9th harmonic gives us 4 noviles and 1 binovile. All novile series (9th harmonic) indicates things which need to be put on the shelf for a while, or that which has been gestating can now move forward. If you want to know more about this important “spiritual gestation” series which mark points of potential spiritual realization and integration, there are several articles in the archives.
AS noted, this month we have huge number of 11th harmonic faith series, with SEVEN bielftiles and 2 quadraelftiles. In the nonrational septile series, we have a fair number this month, with 3 septiles and 2 biseptiles. The 11th harmonic series indicate that faith is required to deal with transcending some dualities, and 7th harmonic aspects indicate forks in the road of destiny.
The novile (9th harmonic), septile (7th harmonic) and elftile (11th harmonic) series all feature spiritual aspects. All novile series aspects represent gestative energies that can lead to great spiritual realizations. Septile series aspects represent forks in the road of destiny, while the elftile series aspects represent issues and points of evolution where we confront the need to resolve some sort of duality by making a leap of faith to attain a form of mastery over that type of duality. This series tests our faith.
The quintile and biquintile (5th harmonic) and related 10th (decile and tredecile), 15th (quindecile), and 20th harmonic (vigintile) aspects are all specialization aspects. You can find more by going to Astrology Class on the Specializing Aspects Pt. 1 – The Quintile and Biquintile, and Astrology Class on the Specializing Aspects Part 2 – The Decile, Tredecile, Quindecile and the Vigintile.

Element Balance and Who’s Leading the Sun
This month continues a dramatically shifting imbalance in the elements, with the 10 traditional planets occupying 6 signs and a major imbalance between cold than hot. We have 2 planets in Fire (inspiration and warmth), 4 planets in Earth (practical grounding), 3 in Air (relatedness and communicating), and 1 in Water (feelings and experiencing). This month we have Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces, Aries, Taurus, and Gemini represented, with no planet in the other signs.
Air and Earth are “cool” elements, while Fire and Water are “hot” elements. With this distribution, it’s twice as cool as it is hot, with all the heat provided by the Aries duo. Because of the preponderance of Earth and Air, the former will keep it grounded and the latter will keep it interactive and light.
Because the New Moon falls in mid-Gemini, Mercury in late Taurus is the “Gateway to the Light.” By seeing our wisdom heritage and offering it to others so they too may be “guided to their Soul,” we’ll let things take their natural course while enjoying ourselves the best we’re able.
The current sequence at present of Deciding, Feeling, and Thinking
We’ve been through several different sequences over the past few months. There are six patterns, and each has their strengths and weaknesses. This Lunation shifts the pattern from the previous Lunation and begins a new one. As a process of moving through events, the most effective “firing sequence” for approaching life and experience over the next two weeks involves leading with our feelings, then then thinking and searching for a new vision or understanding, and then making decisions and acting on them.
This pattern leads with feelings, and then searches for information to confirm or deny those hunches. With Mercury stationary direct in Taurus, see the core of what you’re trying to understand, with an eye to how it fits into your spiritual understanding and service. After you’ve allowed your feelings to move you into a search for meaning, information, or a vision, then reduce everything to a simple fact based on which you can make a clear and simple decision you can act on.
Those with deciding/doing at the end of their pattern always need to remember they are on a journey of ten thousand decisions which allow them to take it one step at a time. During this time period, open to a deeper feeling-knowing, but strive for objectivity and a new view or understanding of whatever presents itself. Then when you’ve considered the information or vision from enough angles, make your decision and take the single step to move everything forward that one step.
So when you are moved by a feeling or experience, it will naturally lead to a quest for new information or a new vision or understanding. Once we get the view or understanding we need, then make your decision and act accordingly. You will find a new feeling-experience naturally arises after the decision and/or action, which will naturally lead to a quest for even more information or understanding.
Summing Up
This New Moon in Gemini requires courage as we move into new futures, new self-identities, new discoveries about our ability to shift directions, all with an eye to allowing things to mature gradually within our process of spiritual growth. This is about enjoyment and self-transcendence, learning through our connection with the invisible world. We renewed the future oriented Aquarius vision and/or our sense of how to contribute spiritually to the emerging era in March, April brought us the vision or openings which are accelerating now, and the coming weeks requires we show the willingness to do new things in new ways. We’ve begun to move out of the “crowded house” we’ve all been living in for the past few months, and now can relax into the expanding process. Do what you have to do with optimism and precise action, since the past is no more and there is work to be done between now and September, when things begin to slow down. We are now in a time of testing our ability to utilize spiritual power effectively, this month through challenges to shift direction or help another pull out of a nosedive.
During the coming few months many who have trained will begin to be able to “know at a distance,” and send constructive thoughts to those who need it. The safety is found in embracing the new and get it done quickly and efficiently. Keep letting go of old desires, old things, and old eccentricities. Find ways of “adjustment to healing,” or greater service. As we’ve let go of a lot recently, and continue to let go of even more these next few months, remember that every ending leads to a new beginning, and as we let go of lesser things we receive greater blessings and gifts than we previously imagined.
In 2020 we entered a transition phase in human history. While we still have to function within the Capricorn cycles we began in 2020, we also have crossed the threshold of an era unknown to humanity since the 13th and 14th centuries. Even then, we were still in the depth of the Age of Pisces, so the awakening of new ideas then were relative to the old era, whereas what’s coming involves wave after wave of Aquarian energies, pushing us to the coming Great Age emerging in the second half of this century.
The long wave Aquarian pulses were initially set into motion by the Mars conjunct Saturn at 1 Aquarius on March 31, 2020, marking the initiation of archetypal Aquarian preliminary structures offered by Saturn. The promise and potential of the new Aquarian pulse then began to expand into a greater social and cultural vision beginning at the Jupiter conjunction with Saturn, the Grand Mutation of the Solstice also at 1 Aquarius. So we have 20 years of Aquarian energies set into motion by that conjunction!
As noted, when Venus and Mars conjuncted at 1 Aquarius in March 2022 it gave a new impetus and new expression to the Aquarian structures which took shape in 2021. The next time Mars transits Aquarius will be in February and March 2024, when it conjuncts Pluto at 1 Aquarius in February about 3 weeks after Pluto’s first ingress into Aquarius. That begins the Pluto in Aquarius “generation” of the 21st century which lasts until 2043. As there will be a Jupiter conjunction with Pluto at 15 Aquarius in 2033, we’ll see the “expansion of the Angels of the Age of Aquarius” at that time.
2021 opened a new adventure for all of us, and the long term “metamorphosis” we went through showed us what the beginning of the coming Age of Aquarius is about. Last year helped us remember we are Beings of Light, a Superstar shining the Light of our Eternal Love into our world. We’re now expanding that promise and we’ll see developments related to this evolutionary leap beginning this month.
New groups of Spiritual communities formed last year and will continue to form this year, and those which are Aquarian in nature were “lifted on the wings of angels” in 2021. Trust the process. We are learning not to play to the generic confusion, irrationality, and misleading notions. Revolution is in the air! And when you find things and people of eternal worth, value them with all your heart.
Saturn: Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend
Saturn continues its long term occupancy in its home sign of Aquarius. While we’ll still be focused on the group work set into motion last year, we are now experiencing Saturn’s late Aquarius qualities. It was a major influence in the 2018, 2019, and 2020 Eclipses, continuing its years-long power behind events.
