On July 28 Jupiter goes stationary retrograde at 9 Aries and will remain retrograde until November 23 when it will go direct at 29 Pisces. What does this mean?
First, it means that the Jupiter adventure we’ve been doing as it raced through Pisces between January and May has now hit a high water mark at 9 Aries, and we will begin to review all the Jupiter related things that have come up since early May, when Jupiter went into its shadow zone for the first time. Since then we’ve gotten a look at the span between 29 Pisces and 9 Aries, and now get another look at that same span of experience, but from a retrograde angle instead of a direct angle.
This span involves the emotional and social level, as well as the actional, material, and physical levels of the Scene of Desire (first half of Aries) and the individual, mental, and spiritual levels of the Scene of Perpetuation (last half of Pisces). That means we get a review of these parts of Aries and Pisces, giving us a “future look” at Aries lessons to be embraces when Jupiter returns to the first 9 degrees of Aries between late December and mid-February.
Jupiter will retrograde back into the last two degrees of Pisces in late October and remain there till late December, setting the platform for all Jupiterian things in 2023. Be ready to say goodbye as many things fracture between now and then, reminding us to forgive and release the past to move clean and clear into the future rapidly unfolding then.
So we now review the emergent factors in our lives since May, seeing the potentials, protections, blessings, opportunities, and newer, more expansive ways of expressing ourselves. This assists the rapidly unfolding Aquarian work set into motion at the Grand Mutation of 1 Aquarius in December 2020, affecting us all for 200 years to come. This impacts our group work, our ability to contribute to a greater good, and our ability to focus to “see whole,” or find a technique to focus our desire to BE absolutely authentic in each moment. We now review the future we’ve glimpsed so we may come to understand our higher potentials in the late Pisces and early Aries part of our chart.
Jupiter in Libra (9/16-10/17) taught us ways of being balanced as we move through our world, and new perspectives in our life interests. Jupiter in Scorpio (10/17-11/18) taught us about desire, loss, and magnetism, and our need to eliminate all that would block us from living our higher values. Jupiter in Sag (11/18-12/19) took us beyond forms, beyond binding forces, and gave us a greater adventure wherever it falls in our chart. Jupiter in Capricorn (12/19-12/20) brought many things together, gave us new Jupiter/Saturn and Jupiter/Pluto cycles, and taught us the value of using power in disciplined ways.
Jupiter in Aquarius (12/20-5/21, 7/21-12/21) taught us ways of opening to a greater vision, a greater good, and a greater ideal. Jupiter in Pisces (5/21-7/21, 12/21-5/22, 10/22-11/22) opened us to a greater compassion, a greater “collective feeling experience,” and for those who are in training for world service, a greater empathy and ability to know, both near and at a distance, what is going on anywhere the consciousness is focused on. Jupiter in Aries (5/22-10/22, 12/22-5/23) teaches us ways of questing on our own initiative into newer, more pioneering openings.
Jupiter spanning Aries and Pisces gives us one last look back to bless and release old ghosts of the past, learn or teach forgiveness and compassion, and learn how the human condition is in a collective feeling-field while having to be an individual who acts of their own initiative within the field. Jupiter in Aries should bring a sense of confidence and well-being for those who have embraced the inner relationship adventure Jupiter in Aquarius and Pisces offered us. We now can take a new look at what has opened for us, with the theme of 9 Aries paramount for what we are to learn from now through February 2023.
The Sabian Symbol for Jupiter’s Stationary Retrograde Degree
The symbol for the 9th degree of Aries is “A Crystal Gazer.” In the original notes from the Marc Jones class on the symbols published in The Astrology of Personality, Rudhyar says this degree is one of “direction from within,” “taking advantage of all factors in a given situation, and knowing when to make decisions,” and “assurance.”
In The Astrological Mandala, he offers that this degree is about “the development of an inner realization or organic wholeness.” This represents our ability to see images which allow us to interpret “the situation as a whole,” where “the nascent mental faculties operating through still dominant emotions (or collective cultural incentives) act as a centralizing and whole-making power.”
He continues “what the intelligence perceives in its concentration is the function of every inner impulse and outer events in the open field of a ‘personality’ still unclouded by egoism,” which is a “new technique required for the development of individualized consciousness is revealed” to be “concentrated attention.” He states this degree falls in the Span of Realization, Act of Differentiation, and Scene of Desire on the Emotional-Cultural level.
Dr. Jones offers that this is a degree of the “capacity for bringing an entire universe within the purview of (our) mind,” where there are “higher faculties of human understanding, but as no more than the illimitable possibilities of personal experience in the realms of potentiality.” He offers that “the world and the individual (are) irrevocably in partnership, each reflecting the other and thereby providing a foreview of every possible mood or situation.”
He offers us the keyword ACUTENESS. He states that when operating in a positive manner, this degree “is consummate insight in planning the course of events or organizing them in the light of immediate convenience.”
So we enter a 4 month period of learning to see opportunity, truth, and group work using spiritual energetic techniques of “seeing whole,” with glimpses of the future opening for those who take direction from within and know what decisions to make. There will be realizations about both differences and unifying factors to be embraced, and if we find the right “whole view,” we can anticipate how and when to act, and know how to organize our plan so it is to our convenience.
Once it retrogrades back into Pisces just as Mars goes stationary retrograde at 26 Gemini, we will find ourselves again at a threshold of leaving behind old roles, old limitations, old duties, and old loyalties, letting old ways of life flow down the time stream. We’ll take one last look at the larger continuity in our life and purpose and be able to experience sensitivity to the enduring ideals of humanity.
This retrograde will help us see the larger picture of the greater truth and future in any group work we’re doing, so keep integrating your vision, your commitment, and your sense of spiritual-social connections to “pre-form” the pathways to a greater truth, vision, and timeless labor next year. Keep moving through the world living the highest truths you can, allowing your Soul to express through your Higher Self using your mind, feelings, and bodies as a perfectly attuned vehicle to demonstrate your spiritual truths. Experience your spiritual heritage by feeling what has been preserved, or what needs preserving.
Summing Up
As Jupiter now retrogrades, preparing to take us “back to the future” in Aries, we now get a new look at the area in our charts between 29 Pisces and 9 Aries. As this span at the cusp of these signs is the “end of the end and beginning of the beginning,” we should be able to understand the larger cycles of evolution playing out in our lives. Because Jupiter teaches us what is possible and what it not, it’s time to take a look back at the rapidly developing opportunities and/or truths we’ve experienced since May, a take a new look at how we can be natural, swift, and authentic in a greater contribution we might make to our world.
Just remember to enjoy the ride, and try not to get too freaked out while you’re seemingly in reverse motion re-approaching another passage through the ocean of collective consciousness in a few months. It’ll give us all another “last chance” to go into the depths of collective experience to know we are one with “All That Is.” If there’s something which needs cleaning up or cleaning out, do your duty with compassion, knowing this too will pass all too quickly into new adventures and new visions.
Jupiter retrograde in Aries and Pisces will be good for glimpsing how to BE while still aware of our connection to the collective field. Keep integrating your body, feelings, and mind into the larger benevolent consciousness that you ARE behind the masque of personality. This offers us a period of reflections and revisions in our vision of the big picture we’re part of, so trust what you’ve experienced about your unique part in the ocean of existence, seeing how things have changed since the Spring.
As 9 Aries was the degree where Chiron went stationary direct in December 2021, we can assume that this retrograde Jupiter period will expand that pulse, teaching us all something about healing into our Higher Self through how we’ve learned to concentrate this year. Jupiter teaches and blesses, so perhaps however we’ve healed in 2022 can now be seen in a different light.
During the coming months, Jupiter will be opposed by all the inner planets, creating a “tension of opposites” which will be very beneficial in bringing forth our power to act effectively in our own way. During Jupiter’s retrograde, we will again see our spiritual companions in a new light, preparing for the rapid developments which will be secured in stable forms when Jupiter enters Taurus in May 2023.
Use this time of review, reflection, and reconsideration well. There is a lot of work to be done as we open to the New Era and its changing requirements in action, feeling, and thought. There will be a lot of chaos and turmoil during this Jupiter retrograde due to the constant Saturn square Uranus and the oppositions coming September, but these give us the chance to apply our spiritual truths and practices in “real time” conditions. This is an excellent time to test your spiritual strength and resolve with patience, organization, maturity, and determination.
Because Jupiter is retrograde, expect reviews and returns of a Jupiterian nature wherever you have early Aries and late Pisces. So whether you’re looking back at how you came to the group work and compassion you have, or how your journey brought you to this spiritual understanding, you are now glimpsing a future which will manifest in a huge way in early 2023 when Jupiter is direct in Aries.
You entered the Mystery in 2018, and allowed your life to be transfigured by previous inspired truths and teachings. 2019 offered wide open spaces of spiritual expansion as prelude to major shifts begun at the Grand Mutation of 2020 at 1 Aquarius, ushering in the pre-initiatives of a new great Age. 2021 took us into glimpses of “the Edge of the Great Age,” and 2022 has launched us into a new identity, new activities, with one last look back before blastoff in December 2022. Review how you got here, and practice skills which will make you a Master of your future Destiny. You’ve going deeper – now it’s time to see how widely your life has expanded since May!

I thought I'd comment today after following you these last 12 years. To illustrate the exactness of what you've written regarding this 9th degree in Aries, I must provide the following, an excerpt from a message I sent an old flame at 10:49pm July 28, 2022: "...I release you, free and clear, no hard feelings. Just peace on my path forward and hopefully yours too. I learned everything we agreed to when we set out, and there is no need to carry unlearned lessons into the future. My heart feels restored. Hopefully it lightens your load." There are moments that are such perfection as these. Thank you, Robert, for all the years of insight and entertainment. Alicia - progressed moon 9 Aries, natal chiron 15 Aries, natal mercury 25 Pisces, 9th house.
