This year so far has been a wild ride with Jupiter roaring through Aries and now about to enter Taurus at a very fast pace before it slows this Summer and goes retrograde in early September. It then re-traces the exact degree span of the recent Mercury retrograde, so you can bet we’ve gotten a preview in the past few weeks of what is to come this Autumn!
Jupiter enters Taurus at 10:20 am PDT on May 16. It will move forward up to 16 Taurus, and then goes stationary retrograde on September 4, showing the themes of 16 Taurus will dominate from mid-April 2023 through the March 2024 Equinox when Jupiter moves out of its shadow zone and quickly transits the last half of Taurus until it enters Gemini on May 25, 2024.
16 Taurus is about old approaches and answers being insufficient to get things done, with an element of knowing more than can be communicated. All of us have confronted or will confront this in some way between mid-April and late May, so get a new point of view and new ways to deal with what’s in front of you.
Since the December 2022 Solstice, we’ve all been on some sort of pioneering adventure wherever we have Aries in our charts. We’ve now had 4+ months to see some new potential emerge in our lives related to what opened between May and October 2022 when Jupiter first occupied early Aries and developed rapidly between February and now. We now have a different “bigger picture” on things than we did even 5 months ago!
Aries initiates things. Taurus secures and stabilizes what we need to sustain the initiative. Jupiter expands and opens new possibilities. In Taurus, Jupiter allows us to expand our stability, resources, values, and any other material or nonmaterial resources which will keep it simple, steady, and enjoyable in the future. Jupiter in Taurus should make it fairly easy and natural to secure whatever resources we need to move into the future introduced last year.
Because Mercury retrograde has already introduced some of the key Jupiterian themes for September through next March, we’ve already begun the process of taking a new look to make sure we’re chasing the right resources and/or have the right attitude toward resources. In what develops now that Jupiter begins its transit through Taurus, keep in mind that securing what you need may take a new approach which may take a few months to become clear.
Jupiter in Taurus will make it fairly clear what we need to do to feel secure, anchored, and sustained in comforting ways. Those who embrace this energy will find a slow steady growth of practical common sense and a gentle sense of humor, as well as the ability to see which seeds of ideas and actions need cultivating over the long run, and which need to be expunged from the garden of personality and/or life.
However, Jupiter in Taurus will also lead some who are stuck in non-productive patterns to embrace a stubborn inertia, and may even cement unhealthy self-absorption and self-justifying values in those who don't want to grow. These people will see opportunity in not moving, or not expanding, or not learning.
Who Is Most Affected by Jupiter’s Transit of Taurus
Those with Suns in Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius are all looking for their place of greatest service, and need to open to greater possibilities of experience and self-expression. Just be careful not to overdo it, take unnecessary risks, or gamble what should not be risked. Be simple and clear in how you choose to represent yourself to your world, with an eye to keeping the initiative and momentum in your own hands as you ride a wave into the future!
Those with a Sun in Taurus will find their light expanding over the next few months, with new foundations, new confidence, and a new sense of possibilities. Sun in Leo people are now moving into a new professional or public self, securing the vision, truth, or opportunity which opened up before now. Much will be jumpstarted in this realm in June and July 2023, but be friendly, detached, see the big picture, and don’t get stuck in toxic interactions.
Sun in Scorpio people are seeing new relationship potential breaking the surface, and should allow a lot of freedom in any relationship they begin or are currently in. This is the midpoint of the cycle that began for Scorpio and Scorpio rising people between October 2017 and November 2018. Sun in Aquarius people opened to a new sense of purpose in 2021 which was structured that year and 2022, and this marks a turning point in things to do with the home, family, and the past. Whether Jupiter in Taurus brings luxury or extravagance, if you have to move, try not to get stuck in unproductive feelings.
People with planets in Capricorn, Taurus, or Virgo will find understanding, harmony, and/or stabilization in those life functions over the next 10 months. People with planets in Cancer or Pisces will find maximum productivity. This is an important transit for those with Pluto in Leo and Scorpio, Neptune in Scorpio and Aquarius, and Saturn in Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, or Aquarius.
It’s bringing the Jupiter return for those born with Jupiter in Taurus, ending an 11+ year cycle and beginning a new one. Those born in late April and the first week of May will experience a beginning, a reversal/rehearsal, and then move forward into the new adventure quickly in the Spring of 2024. Those born the second and third weeks of May will experience may karmic returns, great protection and blessings, and a good harvest between March and May 2024 if they’ve done their spiritual work since 2011-2012.
From now through June 8, Jupiter will transit 1- 5 Taurus, from then to July 4 Jupiter will transit 6- 10 Taurus, and from July 4 to August 16 it will transit 11-15 Taurus. Rudhyar states this span of degrees falls in the Process of Individualization, Act of Differentiation, Scene of Substantiation, and Span of Experience. Adapting what he says about the specific degree spans, the first 5 degrees are Actional, Physical, and Material. From 6-10 degrees are Emotional, Social, and Cultural. From 11-15 degrees are Individual, Mental, Philosophical and Spiritual.
That means the last half of May and first week of June, Jupiter will give us a first look at the actional-material lessons in June, followed by a first look at the social, emotional, and cultural Taurus lessons to be learned between June 8 and July 4. We get our first look at the individual and spiritual factors in our Jupiter in Taurus journey from July 4 through mid-August, after which Jupiter enters the first degree of the second half of Taurus, where it goes stationary retrograde and begins a review of the span between 16 and 6 Taurus.
The second half of Taurus is still in the Process of Individualization and Act of Differentiation, but it’s the Scene of Confirmation and Span of Enjoyment. So we’ll get our first exposure to those energies between mid-August and the September Equinox, when Jupiter will retrograde back into the first half of Taurus and begin our review of the individual, mental, and spiritual as well as the social and emotional levels of that sign. I’ll give you more when Jupiter enters its shadow zone in June, and more when it goes SRX in September.
So now Jupiter’s power of expansion is moving through the span where we get to act, or know something about the material creation, that helps us know how to mobilize on our own behalf through positive actions which help us gather what we need. Early June will show us our “pot of gold at the end of the rainbow,” leading to us having to bury the past in some way. Other themes of mid and late June involve joining with other to bridge some sort of gap, returning to ancient sources of Being, using knowledge and skill to anticipate what is to come, and creating happiness in “grim hours,” or in some way being the Light in the darkness.
July and the first three weeks of August are about us seeing our purpose from a wider angle of consecration, tending our “garden of Life and Mind,” doing some “windowshopping” to see what we need to represent ourselves to others in the future, mobilizing in some way, returning to simple joys for pleasure and/or revitalization, and a willingness to “brave the storm” to cultivate character strengths we’ll need in 2024. This span is about substantiating something related to our individual spirituality, preparing to substantiate this in concrete ways in 2024.
Just be ready to integrate, reintegrate, or deepen your connection to Self, others, and Source in the coming two weeks, since we have a major T-square going on with Jupiter square Pluto and Mars square Jupiter! Keep things focused, let go of whatever needs eliminating, and get ready for a period of sustained productivity from now through the rest of this year and into the next thanks to a constant set of sextiles and quintiles between Jupiter and Saturn, which I’ll write more about in part 2 which will post tomorrow. See you then!
