At 9:11 pm PDT on July 10, Mercury entered Leo, a dramatic and playful sign. This ends the 2 week Cancer backdrop to planets and houses we have in Gemini and Virgo, and brings Fire to the forefront of those planetary Lights and life houses.
This continues to make all things happen quickly related to Mercury in our charts. Because it is still very fast and only barely beginning to slow in anticipation of going retrograde at 22 Virgo in late August, it continues to speed our ability to coordinate things, discover things, give and receive information, and see things from multiple points of view. It now has the Sun as its ruler, showing Mercury will be more steady and on course until it enters Virgo on July 28, when it will become its own dispositor.
The rest of July should see things unfold at a very fast pace even though it slows down quickly at the end of its stay in Leo. During the time in Leo it’s out front of the Sun, bringing signs and signals of things to come in August and September. It stopped “leading the light” when it made the Superior Conjunction with the Sun, and will not “lead the light” again until the Inferior Conjunction in the first week of September.
Mercury in Leo should bring more inspiration, creativity and playfulness to all things Mercurial. Of course, we’re still under the influence of the Superior Conjunction “fusion of Life and Mind” at 10 Cancer. This is giving us a new look at past things that enlightened us socially or emotionally at a turning point in our lives. We may remember how we were once “crafted to perfection,” or at some point achieved “the acme of civilized living” which we are now called upon to remember.
Keep in mind that its recent retrograde between 16 and 6 Taurus had as a theme of “the old answers can’t solve the current questions” and old approaches won’t necessarily get the job done. This set of lessons will be amplified when Jupiter goes SRX and SD on these same degrees between September and December.
Still, we’ll be getting very fast experience of Mercury through mid-July, after which it’ll rapidly slow down and enter its next shadow zone on August 3, preparing to go stationary retrograde at 22 Virgo on August 23.
For now, face forward and ride the swift waves of change through mid-July, and then get everything in order, since once Mercury begins to slow down in its shadow zone we’ll begin to feel the retrograde effect. I’ll write more about that in late July.
