Chiron goes stationary direct at 7:10 pm PST on December 26. We now resume our forward motion related to healing and/or mentoring we’ve experienced since May 2022 when Chiron first transited 16 Aries.
As Chiron is not merely “the wandering, wounded healer” but also the first, best mentor and teacher we could ever have, it helps us to “heal into our Higher Self” by mastering whatever lessons of science, philosophy, logic, healing, and yes, astrology that call us throughout life. Chiron doesn’t move fast, as it is the bridge between the Ring Pass Not of Saturn and the spiritual liberation in the here and now of Uranus. If we would “break on through to the other side,” then we must understand how to heal ourselves to be of service to our world.
Chiron takes about 50 years to make a complete orbit, but its time in each sign is highly irregular. To give you a sense of it, between Cancer and Scorpio, it’s always less than two years and 6 months, mostly around 2 in each sign. It spends around 3 years each in Sagittarius (1999-2001) and Capricorn (2002- 2/05). Then it jumps to over 5 years in Aquarius (2/05-4/10), 8 years in Pisces (4/10-4/18), and 9 years in Aries (4/18-4/27) before it goes back to over 6 years in Taurus (4/27-7/33) and just under 6 years in Gemini (7/33-4/39). As you can see, it races through Cancer to Sag, and then slows WAY down in Pisces, Aries, Taurus, and Gemini.
Chiron Conjunctions In Aries Will Dominate the Decade
So we’re now well into Chiron’s journey through Aries, and it’s beginning to speed up gradually these next few years. Obviously, all the conjunctions made to Chiron these past years set long wave cycles of healing and growth into motion. Mars conjuncted Chiron at 29 Pisces in late December 2018, a degree of things “coming apart” at the end of cycles. It’s easy to see how many things ended in our world in 2019 and the first half of 2020. That healing cycle dominated the span that followed until the first of four Mars/Chiron conjunctions in Aries.
The first one was in June 2020 at 10 Aries, when Chiron was SRX. That cycle and its themes dominated until Mars conjuncted Chiron in June 2022 at 16 Aries, beginning another two year cycle of healing using Mars energies or being healed or mentored by someone with strong Aries energy. The cycle which began in 2022 moved the energies from the culmination of the emotional and social level of “Emergence” into the initiation of the scene of “Potency” on the actional and physical levels of life. This was boosted in a huge way this year when Jupiter conjuncted Chiron at 15 Aries on March 12, 2023, launching an entirely new long wave healing cycle in our lives in the house where 15 Aries falls.
The next Mars conjunct Chiron takes place at 22 Aries in May 2024, and the final one happens May 2026 at 29 Aries. Aries is the sign which jump starts everything of its own initiative. With Chiron in Aries, by learning how to take the initiative in healing ourselves, being mentored or mentoring others in our own way, we grew through reinterpreting the imagery of our lives to find new meaning 2020-2022, and now heal and grow into our Higher Self by finding a new inspiration. Another factor in the conjunctions is that because Chiron is the bridge to Uranus, it may be that all of these Mars/Chiron cycles in Aries relate directly to what we awakened when Uranus was in Aries between March 2011 and February 2019 except for a few months when it was in transition.
Chiron Dancing in mid-Aries
While Chiron is in Aries, it will be helpful to remember that Aries can only do what it does in its own way. As the first sign, it literally is inspired motion itself, moving on its own initiative toward whatever Light and/or heat it feels will bring the seed life to the surface, where it may acquire substance in Taurus. Chiron in Aries is healing and mentoring us in Aries ways; with the 2020 Chiron retrograde station conjunct Mars, that long cycle was a “flame on” to our healing, our learning, our teaching, and our journey from suffering in our woundedness to being a Master of breaking the link between the pain of life and the suffering of the lower ego.
At this point, Chiron begins its last look at the themes of 16 Aries, which are now a platform for how we can best express Chironic energies in our lives. As mentioned, it first crossed 16 Aries in May 2022, retrograded back across this degree in August and September, and then crossed it again while direct in March-April 2023. It now moves forward in its shadow zone up to 20 Aries and moves into unknown zones in April 2024 until it finally goes stationary retrograde at 24 Aries in July 2024.
So we’ve been dealing with themes involving the span between 16-20 Aries this year and into 2024. Since Spring we’ve gotten to withdraw from people and circumstances which wasted our time so we can redirect our actions in a new focus. We also learned to alternate activity and rest, found glimpses of “a strife transcending and unattached outlook,” and joined with others to offer what we could in the way of active community. With this direct station Chiron is firmly in the Leo decan of Aries with an extra dose of the Sun! So we close this Chiron transit of 16 Aries with a desire to find a new inspiration while anticipating the coming social and emotional healing when Chiron moves into the third decan of Aries.
The Sabian Symbol for Chiron’s Direct Station
This direct station falls at 16 Aries. While I've given you a sense of this degree up to now, this is where we go into depth.
The Sabian symbol for the 16th degree of Aries is “Brownies dancing in the setting sun.” In the original Jones class notes from The Astrology of Personality, Rudhyar says this is a degree of the “relationship between conscious and unconscious sides of life,” and “invisible assistance often entailing obligation to outer forces.”
In the Astrological Mandala, he states this degree is about "attunement to the potency of invisible forces of nature,” where “in the light of personal fulfillment….(we) may be able to establish a life-giving contact with natural forces” which constitute a part of the larger life of the biosphere, or Gaia. He offers that these nature spirits are part of the one life of the planet, and are “nonindividualized and unfree energies” within the planet as an organism that act as a “guiding and balancing-harmonizing factor” similar to a human endocrine system.
He goes on to say “when this Sabian Symbol reaches into the consciousness of (those who seek) meaning, it should be seen as an invitation to open (our minds) to the possibility of approaching life in a holistic and nonrational, intuitive manner…. It implies a call to repotentialization.” He states this degree falls in the Span of Examination, Act of Differentiation, Scene of Potency on the Actional level.
Dr. Jones, creator of the Sabian Symbols, says this is a degree of “the essentially friendly relationships which exist between man as a persona and the totally impersonal forces of nature,” where the “cosmic integrity demands a continual reversion to pure source in the case of each segment of reality, and the universal activity provides a continual sorting and sifting of all things into convenience and order. He continues that “the dance of life” is “an unending rehearsal and exhibition of every special capacity of selfhood.”
He offers us the keyword INVIGORATION. He goes on to say that when operating positively, the degree is “simple good fortune together with unlimited opportunity as the direct fruitage of effort.”
So the Chironic theme for the coming months involves us healing into our Higher Self by opening our minds to seeing things with fresh eyes and a willingness to embrace a new potential and the “friendliness” of life that allows us to contact the source. Be open to being mentored by an invigorating “communion with nature” and those “energy distributing forces” that allow us to “rehearse and exhibit” our special capacities.

For more about Chiron in Aries specifically, I wrote this in April 2018 when Chiron first entered Aries. In it I gave you some personal anecdotes for what happened in my life the last time Chiron was in Aries, so if you’re interested in that take on this position, please revisit Chiron in Aries
