We have Sun conjunct Saturn tomorrow, illuminating Piscean structures for the next year. This shows us the Light of what we’ve mastered and what we have yet to master.
As you know, each year Mercury, Venus, and the Sun conjunct Saturn. When they do, each brings a new quality to Saturn, and each takes away a new lesson from Saturn as they launch a new year cycle.
This year we have a triple conjunction, as we have the Superior conjunction of Mercury with the Sun, Mercury conjunct Saturn, and Sun conjunct Saturn ALL on February 28 at 10 Pisces. So tomorrow sets new Mercury/Saturn and Sun/Saturn cycles into motion with themes of 10 Pisces. Venus will be next to conjunct Saturn at 13 Pisces on March 21, and Mars will be the last to conjunct Saturn this year on April 10 at 15 Pisces.
The Sabian Symbol For This Sun Conjunct Saturn
This conjunction affects the house where 10 Pisces falls. As this degree is triggered three ways today, both the short term influence of the Superior conjunction as well as the year cycles set into motion by Mercury and the Sun conjuncting Saturn, we can definitely expect that the themes of 10 Pisces will be very prominent for the next year.
The Sabian Symbol for the 10th degree of Pisces is “An aviator in the clouds.” In the original notes from the Marc Jones class on the symbols which were published in The Astrology of Personality, Rudhyar says this is a degree of “transcendence of normal problems,” “ gaining of celestial responsibilities,” “consummation of the highest ideals,” and “coronation.”
In The Astrological Mandala he offers that this is a degree of our “ability to develop powers and skills which by transcending natural limitations allow (us) to operate in mental-spiritual realms.” He explains that this “synthesizes the implication of the four preceding (symbols): the dedication to the community … (present and future), self-assertion, and the ambition to reach a social goal.”
He continues that here we master “difficulties implied in a type of operation transcending (our) organic limitations and the narrow boundaries of a localized ‘living space” as individuals “in command of powerful energies, but also as heir to the industry of countless innovators and managers.” He states this “evokes the achievement of mastery,” and says this degree falls in the Span of Innocence, Act of Capitalization, and it’s the fulfilling degree in the Scene of Federation on the social and emotional level.
Dr. Jones, creator of the Sabian Symbols, says this is a degree of our “transcendental powers of comprehension, emphasized here in (our) exploratory genius and (our) gift for creating the endless hypotheses (we) need for solving the problems of a modern world.” He states this degree allows us “to take a perspective superior to any involvement or pattern of limitation, and to examine any special complex of human affairs with a consistent thoroughness of overview.”
He continues “the inner and outer realms of activity are brought to a point of effective revelation of each other. He offers us the keyword OBSERVATION, and he says when operating in a positive way, this drgree is “special competence in whole judgment and long-range planning.”
As I gave you in the article on the Superior Conjunction, this “fusion of life and mind” is about our power to transcend old problems and old perspectives, gain higher responsibilities, and solve problems in new ways. We should have opportunities to get a “superior perspective” and show our ability to “fly by the seat of our pants” without needing a visual reference.
Given that both Mercury and the Sun also conjunct Saturn on this degree, it seems we’ll see “the Guide of Souls” and “the Great Light” both leading us to a new understanding of Dharma, Karma, or “illuminated responsibility” by what we’ve mastered in the way of “celestial navigation” up to now. This will yield new power, new skills, and the fulfillment of our ability to navigate obscure or foggy conditions without needing visual references. This should lead us to illuminated maturity in fluid self-expression involving skills which show our mastery.
The Sun’s conjunction will allow us to “see the Light” of the meaning and purpose of this conjunction over the next year. This will be accompanied by a Mercurial understanding and the Light of coordinating a higher way of living and functioning. We’ll be tested to act on this understanding in early April 2024 when Mars moves across this degree en route to its conjunction with Saturn at 15 Pisces. We are now setting the first Saturn in Pisces cycles into motion for 27 years to come, so enjoy the first enlightened experience of these energies.
Saturn: Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend
We are now solidly in the long voyage of Saturn’s transit of Pisces. While in Aquarius 2021-2022 it taught us shortcuts to illumination and instructed us in using spiritual energies wisely, including the spiritual powers of gratitude and appreciation. This is a time of learning lessons of compassion and forgiveness shown by Pisces, following through on the call to renew something in our lives in play since June 2023.
Saturn, ruler of our Capricorn and Aquarius sectors and any natal or progressed planets we have in those signs, is now accelerating in speed, moving forward through a “new dedication” which we first encountered April-May 2023 and then got our “review” in July-August. This is a time of a heavy illuminated understanding of Saturn because of the Mercury’s Superior conjunction just before these conjunctions.
Saturn’s still in a very productive and specializing phase, promising gifts and unique circumstances. Saturn in Pisces teaches us about compassion, connectedness, empathy, and the need to bless endings and forgive. Set aside fear and and “let go, let god.”
Though Saturn can feel heavy and bring serious life lessons, it is the part of us which can take charge of our lives and destiny by using Saturn’s virtues in the right way and time. Our ability to steer our “ship of personality” into its rightful “role of destiny” has brought us to the threshold of new parts to play on the stage of Life.
We’re now in a productive period of Jupiter making favorable aspects to Saturn over past and future months. The friction between Saturn and Uranus in 2021-2022 showed us what mattered to us and what didn’t. Uranus awakened us to new roles to play, while Saturn brought new mutations and an accelerated evolution.
In my book Saturn: Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend, I show how Saturn helps us give form and structure to our quest to bring forth our Soul. While it was in Aquarius 2020-2023, it taught us how to make a greater contribution to our world, coming together with others in a collective effort “ensouled by a great vision.” Coupled with Uranus having awakened us to the fact that it’s already a new time, a new way, and a new day, we’re “breaking on through to the other side” into an unfolding Higher awareness.
The book was written for both astrologers and non-astrologers. Even those with little or no understanding of astrology will benefit from understanding why you had to make certain choices at crucial times that shaped your life in profound ways.
Each time you read any section of this book you will find new insights about your power to throw off all the attitudes and memories which hold you back from finding and living the life and purpose.
