This is the final opposition this year from early Leo to Pluto in early Aquarius. This allows the Sun to illuminate Pluto’s deep purifying fire. The Mercurial information which came to surface when it opposed Pluto, added to the Venusian information which came to surface this past week is now going to be seen “in the Light of Day.” Some very intense seeds of transformation have been coming to the surface.
This opposition with the Sun at 1 Leo and Pluto at 1 Aquarius is exact at 10:38 pm PDT July 22. Be careful from now through Wednesday, as that is the time span when this is most active. When the Sun opposes Pluto, we get a full illumination of the Lord of the Underworld, and everything in between the Sun and Pluto, which is the entire Solar system!
Everything’s getting lit up, but we must show caution against going to extremes, getting overconfident, or allowing our focus to go off. This is an aspect of “the illumination of chaos” and the seeds of the future. It requires fearlessness, willingness, concentration and discipline to make the most of this aspect.
Great truths and great illusions come to surface with this aspect, illuminating our deepest fears and our greatest potential if we’re willing to embrace the purification process and come out transformed and able to withstand the greatest heat and pressure imaginable. We can find a bottomless self-assurance and great truths at this time, so see the seeds emerging of a transformed future and let go of corrosive people and attitudes from the past which might undermine our efforts.
As Pluto rules seeds, both good and bad, as well as the sprouting process, Pluto oppositions challenge us to be clear about the core of things. A Solar opposition helps us get to core Life and Death issues and see clearly the interior nature of a person or thing. It can help us see what needs eliminating or what needs encouragement as it is still developing, and help us purify our lives.
The Sun opposed Pluto at 1 Aquarius brings another Solar recharge to the themes of the Grand Mutation of 2020 at 1 Aquarius. This cycle will be in play for many more years, and involves building the preliminary touchstones to the coming Aquarian Age which will be very much in evidence by the end of the third quarter of this century.
As we are entering “the Spring of the 21st Century” in 2025, this opposition vitalizes the Plutonic seeds of 1 Aquarius which have been sprouting the Grand Mutation themes since Pluto first entered Aquarius in late March 2023, going stationary retrograde at 1 Aquarius. There have been several very important conjunctions occur at 1 Aquarius since March 2020, all of which have established the new 20 year Aquarian pulse and the new 200 year Air dominance superseding the previous 200 year era where Earth dominated. I wrote articles about every one of those conjunctions, including Mars/Saturn, Venus/Mars, and the yearly Aquarian inner planet transits. They are in the archives if you want to know more about how each of those "quickened the pulse" of the emerging Aquarian sub-era.
Mercury opposed Pluto brought corrosive ideas as they came to surface; the Venus opposition brought corrosive people to the surface. These can now be seen in a greater Light if the purification process can be carried out successfully. Otherwise the corrosive influences will now grow into a life of their own. This intensifies the message, the players, and the purpose of this process. As with the other two oppositions, be a bit more cautious in your responses during this opposition. Venus opposed Pluto may bring the end of old relationships, and this Solar opposition makes that opposition clear.
As I reminded you when Venus opposed Pluto, please keep in mind that transit to transit aspects cannot be taken personally, even when they accompany personal changes. Transits show us the patterns and gestalt of the times, and the interrelationships between the transiting planets show us the complexities of various types of forces in our lives. Where the transits fall in our charts shows the “planetary department of labor” is focused in that area of our life, and the aspects those transits make, whether transit to transit or transit to natal, show when energy builds and when it releases, both in general and in our lives specifically.
As this is a transit to transit opposition, the Sun and Pluto are also making other aspects to planets in our charts. If they are productive or harmonious, then the awareness generated by the opposition will build and stabilize something productive in our lives. If this opposition squares something in our charts, then it forms a T-square which helps us integrate our personality and deal with a deficiency or an excess.
These oppositions from Leo to Aquarius can bring high realization rather than any overt opposition in the life, especially if we have a natal or progressed planet helping us triangulate, using points outside the opposition to resolve the tension. While oppositions generate tensional awareness, we can still use the generic flow and intensification to make progress. While an opposition may feel like we’re “sailing against the wind,” if we find a sextile/trine point, then we can “tack into the wind” and catch the forward momentum in our sails despite the headwinds.
Even when there’s not a transit creating a sextile and trine, we can apply this principle to other transit to transit oppositions affecting a planet in our chart. For example, If we have something in sextile and trine to the opposition, we can make great progress despite outer circumstances. If we have something that makes a quintile or tredecile to the opposition, we will find high specialization and unique circumstances that should help us to express something “quintessential.” And if the opposition makes a T-square to a planet or angle in our chart, we can use the tension to integrate the power and release it through the void in the configuration.
As I mentioned, this is the last of three oppositions to Pluto this year; Mercury opposed Pluto between July 2 and July 4, Venus opposed Pluto between July 11 and July 13, and this one is most intense between July 21 and 23, so if there was some sort of extreme event in the first week of this month, it heralded something related in a Venusian area which now leads to something “coming to Light” at the Sun opposed Pluto.
The Mercury and Venus oppositions operated from 2 Leo to 2 Aquarius, showing our ability to learn even when “school’s out” and gain through life’s “inconveniences.” The Sun opposed Pluto at 1 Leo/Aquarius now brings the larger Aquarian 20 year pulse to the surface in a Solar way. And Mars will oppose Pluto from 30 Cancer to 30 Capricorn at election time, accenting past polarizations rather than point to the future.
So while the opposition provides awareness and the need to focus on eliminating all which is frustrating our ability to be confident in our self-expression, there are also other factors going on which may affect us more profoundly in other areas. The Moon at 26 Aquarius gives us the ability “to pick up and deliver spiritual power” via the Fixed T-square with Mercury in late Leo and Uranus in late Taurus.
Embrace unique ideas, but also beware of rebellious or erratic instincts. This requires examining the magnetics of things to see what must be kept and what must be eliminated. Efficiency and adaptability are required, as are doing things in great style while cultivating an active magnetic connection with Source.
This opposition has the extreme benefit of Mars being at 2 Gemini on the “Santa Claus” degree. This means the Sun is sextile Mars and Mars is trine Pluto, generating a very favorable influence for anything in our charts occupying the early degrees of Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius, and Aquarius.
This opposition also has the benefit of Venus quintile Mars and biquintile Saturn with Mars quintile Saturn. I explained this configuration in pt. 3 of the recent Full Moon series. It brings high specialization and unique events and experiences to those with planets or points near 1-4 Gemini, 13-16 Leo, 25-28 Libra, 7-10 Capricorn, and 19-22 Pisces.
With Leo as the sign externalizing Pluto’s future vision, it’s a time to allow the spontaneity we’ve cultivated in the past to come forth, and create as much festivity as we can. This period of should help us connect the dots from the Mercury opposition to now, and continues the intensification and “reunion with fighting spirits.” In any case enjoy the opening, enjoy the freedom, enjoy the blessings you have already begun to receive, and open to new fiery and/or creative initiatives.
