Yesterday’s article opened the door to a huge area of astrology involving aspects and resonant void points created when 2, 3, or 4 planets all make aspects in the same harmonic series. Today we take a look at how the angles between planets set up resonant void points that are triggered many times a year even when they involve planets not in that aspect series.
Part 1 introduced the concept of planets in aspect creating void point which affect them even if they’re not occupied at the time. In one example I noted that over the past few days we had Venus at 13-14 Leo, Mars at 1-2 Gemini, and Saturn at 19-20 Pisces. Venus is quintile Mars and biquintile Saturn with Mars quintile Saturn. This created 3 points in a "5 Pointed Star of Quintessential Specialization" with 2 voids created at 26 Libra and 8 Capricorn which will trigger that configuration, since both of those points form quintiles and biquintiles to the three planets in the Star.
Today we’ll take a look at other potential ways voids are formed using my chart as an example. This way you can see the resonant voids created in your chart by any two or three planets in an aspect series.
We’ll begin with a trine in my chart from 11 Leo to 12 Aries. That creates its own dynamic relationship which is triggered in significant ways by transits and progressions across points not in Aries or Leo. That trine opens up harmonic resonant points at 11 and 12 Sagittarius, where understanding is harmonized or expressed in some way.
Sticking with the trine from 11 Leo to 12 Aries, if there is a transit or progression across 11-12 Aquarius, as it opposes the Leo point and sextiles the Aries point it creates an opposition, sextile, trine configuration which throws a very favorable void to 11-12 Libra. That degree energy is what is required to balance “the tension of opposites” and generates a smooth flow of energies between the four points stimulated. The same phenomenon happens when a planet moves through 11-12 Libra, creating “tensional awareness” along the Aries/Libra axis and throwing a very favorable void to 11-12 Aquarius.
Besides the trine from 11 Leo, the planet at 12 Aries also is trine to a planet at 18 Leo and I have another planet at 24 Aries also in trine to the planets at 18 Leo. These expand the zones of the trine’s influence across a larger span of operation, and create a LOT of voids related to these areas as well as all the midpoints involved between the planets in Aries and points in Leo. (I also have 30 Aries highly active, but that makes a tredecile with 18 Leo, not a trine. Which opens up a bunch of 10th harmonic resonant void points!)
We have a major midpoint at 18 Aries, and two more at 21 and 27 Aries. We also have a major midpoint at 14 Leo. As you can see, there are several trines triggered as planets move through 12-24 Sagittarius, with each trine expressing its own unique understanding or harmonization related to the natal Aries and Leo energy.
Returning to our example of the trine, the midpoint between 12 Aries and 11 Leo is 11-12 Gemini, which is the externalization point for the void at 11-12 Sagittarius. So that one Fire trine creates resonant points in Sagittarius, but also in the three Air signs of Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius. You can see that even a simple trine sets up all kinds of other points that will be triggered throughout our lives.
As mentioned, I have a tredecile from 30 Aries to 18 Leo. This sets up resonant voids which trigger the tredecile each time something moves through any of the 10 zones any decile or tredecile sets up. In this case, hot zones are a couple of degrees to either side of 6 Gemini/Sagittarius, 12 Cancer/Capricorn, 18 Leo/Aquarius, 24 Virgo/Pisces, and 30 Aries/Libra. The interactive specialization and serendipity shown by the 10th harmonic aspects is triggered each time there’s a transit or progression across these zones.
This also works for frictional harmonic aspects. I have a square from 14 Aquarius to 14 Taurus. That has its own standalone quality, but transits and progressions also create other aspects to both which release powerful energies and the need for “right action” at various times. That particular square generates resonant voids at 14 Leo and 14 Scorpio. When either of those point is occupied by a progression or transit, it sets up different T-squares.
When planets transit 14 Scorpio, it creates oppositional awareness with 14 Taurus, and the planet at 14 Aquarius becomes the driver of the T-square, throwing a void to 14 Leo. However, when planet transit 14 Leo, the oppositional awareness engages 14 Aquarius, with the 14 Taurus planet the driver of the configuration, creating a void in 14 Scorpio.
As I mentioned yesterday, the void of a T-square shows the problem, the solution, or both. T-squares require integration of tensional energy being released by the planet driving the T. Any square we have in our chart will lead to T-squares being created every time a planet squares and opposes either planet in the natal square. T-squares are actually very dynamic times when a lot can get done, as long as the positive strengths of the void sign energies are being used, and not the malfunctions of those signs.
As squares and oppositions involve the 4th harmonic, they are part of the Octile (8th harmonic) series. That series includes the semisquare (45 d) and sesquisquare (135 d). Any square immediately creates its midpoint.
In our example, the midpoint of 14 Aquarius and 14 Taurus is 29 Pisces. So that point is also active in my chart, as is its opposite, 29 Virgo, since that point is sesquisquare 14 Aquarius and 14 Taurus. The square also triggers 29 Gemini and 29 Sagittarius, since those points are also semisquare and sesquisquare 14 Aquarius and 14 Taurus. So the square from 14 Aquarius to 14 Taurus actually creates dynamic resonant points at 14 degrees of the Fixed signs, and also 29 degrees of the Mutable signs.
In my chart, the planets at 14 Aquarius and 14 Taurus both form sesquisquares to a planet I have at 29 Virgo. In this case the friction generated between Aquarius and Taurus seeks an outlet at 29 Virgo. As the sesquisquare creates “friction without crisis” then the trick to positive expression is not to get aggravated or annoyed when this “Hammer of Thor” configuration is active!
As harmonious aspects build stable energy and frictional aspects release energy through friction and tension, you can see how a planet might build via one set of aspects and release through another. In the example, I have a rectangle between mid-Aquarius, mid-Aries, mid-Leo, and mid-Libra. Each point helps the other three with productive stabilization and harmonious awareness. However, the points in Aquarius and Leo are part of the T-square driven from mid-Taurus. So the Aquarian planet both builds and releases as part of its function.
There are many other configurations besides the ones I’ve mentioned here which create a lot of unoccupied active points in a chart. And some degrees activate multiple points across multiple potential configurations.
In the second paragraph I spoke of an example of the 3 current transit points of a “5 Pointed Star of Quintessential Specialization.” I also have 3 points of such a star at 14 Aquarius, 24 Aries, and 6 Cancer. This creates harmonic voids at 16-18 Virgo and 28-30 Scorpio.
However, while that means high specialization for the planets in Aquarius, Aries, and Cancer, we also see the planet at 24 Aries in a triseptile with the planet at 29 Virgo. So the planet in multiple Aries conjunctions and a trine to Leo also is involved in crucial turning points of destiny indicated by the 7th harmonic aspect to the planet at 29 Virgo, nozzle of the “Hammer of Thor.” The triseptile opens up hot zones near 22-26 Aries, 14-18 Gemini, 6-10 Leo, 27 Virgo-1 Libra, 18-22 Scorpio, 10-14 Capricorn, and 1-5 Pisces.
While a transit through any of these zones will trigger a 7th harmonic response from my planets in triseptile, they often will make other important aspects in different harmonic series to other planets in my chart. Like 12 Capricorn will biseptile the planets at 29 Virgo and 23 Aries, creating a “kite configuration” with them.
However, at the same time it will quintile my planet at 26 Pisces, square the planet at 12 Aries, tredecile the points at 30 Aries, trine the planet at 14 Taurus, quincunx the point at 11 Leo, and biquintile the planet at 18 Leo. Each of these aspects in turn creates its own set of resonant voids, showing that we always have a host of various types of phase relationships going on at a given time, even if a certain degree doesn’t seem actively important to us.
I have explored this phenomenon throughout countless articles in the archives. I’d suggest typing in “voids” or “resonant voids” in the site google box and I’m sure you’ll get a long list of articles where I’ve given you material about the subject. And as I offered yesterday, some years back I did a comprehensive powerpoint presentation on the subjects of special configurations and resonant void points. If there’s enough interest I’ll edit the soundtrack and make it available at a reasonable price.
So enjoy applying some of the principles I’ve given you yesterday and today related to aspects and configurations and resonant void points. Hopefully this will help you understand how the dynamics of planetary phase relationships, and open up other possible ways to interpret aspects in a chart.
