Mercury goes direct in motion at 4:08 am PDT on April 7 and speeds up for the next 10 weeks. This shows a quickening of the ability to coordinate, put things together, understand the whole and the parts, the process and the larger cycles. It is now stationary direct at 27 Pisces, affecting that area in our lives for 3 months to come.
Mercury, or Hermes, "the Guide of Souls," is also known as the Divine Trickster, as well as all lesser models. What does Mercury going stationary direct at 27 Pisces mean? Perhaps it would be useful to take a look back on what the last Mercury direct station at 7 Sagittarius brought us since December 2024.
Because the November/December RX ended at 7 Sagittarius, themes associated with that degree have predominated from then to now and will dominate the entire year, as that’s where Mercury goes SRX in November 2025, when we’ll get a look back at how 2025 embodied those themes. 7 Sag is about the intensification of love, or the excitement of adventure into something which calls our hearts. These have dominated our Mercury lessons wherever we have 7 Sagittarius.
This retrograde period began at 10 Aries, and gave us a review of four things;
1) we’ve now done a review of the recent past and what’s emerged in this time when Aries and Pisces have been active;
2) we’ve done a review of things related to the house(s) where we have 27 Pisces-10 Aries;
3) we’ve gotten a new look at Neptune’s positions between April 2023 and now, as well as its transit to come through February 2030. So Mercury’s giving us a view of past-present-future in the time it’s been in its shadow zone;
4) It has been dancing closely to Venus since early March, and tracks part of Her shadow zone between 25 Pisces and 11 Aries. Thus Mercury conjuncted Venus before “reviewing” her current track in the same zones.
So we’ve taken a journey through parts of our Aries and Pisces past, present, and future, gotten a new perspective on many “emotion arousing images” from our past, and been given chances to reinterpret some things within a wider perspective. The first part of the retrograde Mercury had Mars in Cancer as its dispositor, while this second half of the RX Mercury’s had Jupiter in Gemini as its dispositor.
So we had a backdrop of an initiatory view of “gathering what we need” in the first half, with themes of celebration, stellar performance, and anticipating things to come. The second half of the RX has had a backdrop of giving and receiving information and expanding our mind power to make our imagination more effective in the second. We’ve all had to learn to see and communicate in alternate ways because of the Mercury/Jupiter Mutual Reception, and find ways to use the scattering influences to find a realization cooking for a while.
We all got a new look at previous times when we began something brand new, or claimed our ability to take the initiative on our own terms to “break on through to the other side,” or saw what we have to do to prepare for the new beginnings already happening right now. This began with a re-evaluation of old images so we could find new ways of seeing ourselves or something which roused us emotionally or socially in the past. Some of these may be associated with prior transits of early Aries in other years, especially Uranus’ transit of the first decan of Aries in 2011-2013.
Mercury then slipped back into the last 4 degrees of Pisces, where it joined Venus, Saturn, the North Node, and Neptune in a very crowded house letting us know it’s the end of the end in several important ways, with 2025 being the year when many things will be brought to a final conclusion before the doors blow open in 2026. As this station is at 27 Pisces, expect echoes of Uranus’ time in this span, as well as some themes related to the Superior conjunction from 2 years ago on the same degree.
Now we face 4 months of being guided to our Soul using the qualities of 27 Pisces, with some of these themes being “set in stone” when Saturn transits the last 4 degrees of Pisces from late April through late May. 27 Pisces indicates from here we move forward into a whole new way to use our creative imagination “to dominate circumstances.” Open to “non-local” knowing, empathy, compassion and the larger feeling-field, and you’ll develop your intuition in fine style.
In late May Saturn will begin to crystallize some things related to the first 2 degrees of Aries, and then return to the end of Pisces in September, bringing finality to the late Pisces themes and lessons in our lives by February. The dream will be “made real” by then, one way or another.
The themes of 27 Pisces will now help us coordinate our lives over the next 4 months, and will bring us clarity about the eternal Soul/Spirit we are which will soon find itself in a new Aries landscape. We are collectively turning a huge corner. Mercury and Venus retrograde from Aries to Pisces will give us realizations over the next months which will help us make whatever transition we need to make.
The Sabian Symbol for Mercury’s Direct Station
This SD degree falls at 27 Pisces, and it is said that the third third (decan) of any sign deals with the intellectual and spiritual levels of life. Being the third decan of Pisces, it has a sub-influence of Scorpio with an additional dose of Mars. While I've given you a sense of this degree up to now, this is where we go into depth.
The Sabian symbol for the 27th degree of Pisces is “A harvest Moon.” In the original Jones class notes, Rudhyar says this is a degree of “the power of creative visualization by which great dreamers transcend outer reality,” and “complete dominance of circumstances.”
In The Astrological Mandala, he states this degree symbolizes “the light of fulfillment that blesses work well done.” He adds that this symbol “brings us the message that the time has come to reap what we have not only sown, but also cultivated – or failed to cultivate.”
He offers that this symbol represents a consummation, a karmic moment, where “the seed of the new cyclic manifestation is already latent.” He says this degree falls in the Span of Protection, Act of Capitalization, and Scene of Perpetuation on the Individual-Mental level.
Dr. Jones states this is a degree of “life’s moments of culmination as the threshold of new achievement,” emphasizing “the fact that nature in her immeasurable prodigality is forever showing (us) with the products of her untiring creativeness.” He says this shows us our productivity is as rich as Nature’s, “and that the highly concentrated resources of the world are at the immediate service of anyone who will put them to use and so facilitate their replacement.”
He offers us the keyword BENEDICTION. He states that when operating in a positive manner, this degree “is self-consummation which is successful beyond any possibility of measure.”
So this platform from which “The Guide of Souls” launches our next few weeks is about “using imagination to “dominate circumstances,” showing us the work we’ve done well. This will help us get a deep feeling perception in some individual or spiritually creative way, and see how to use the resources we have to fulfill some element of our purpose.
From Here We Move Forward
27 Pisces is now a launch point for entering into a new (though very familiar) realm in the Gemini and Virgo areas of our chart via Mercury’s placement in the Scorpio decan of Pisces, where it sees what must be “de-magnetized” from the past to free our imagination and momentum into the future. We now move forward, having done our time of going inward to reflect on what’s emerged for us since February via Venus and March via Mercury. We’ve all re-imagined many things the past 3 weeks, and now move forward to give and receive a greater sense of being alive.
Mercury again turns to chase the Sun toward their next Superior Conjunction, bringing all its reflections and reviews into the NOW. In 2024 we had retrogrades of Earth to Fire and Fire to Fire which impacted how we’ve expressed our Gemini and Virgo areas, and now have experienced Fire to Water giving us a new understanding of our late Pisces and early Aries sectors.
We’ll close today with a reminder that although Mercury is now direct and won’t be retrograde again until mid-July, the retrograde we’ve just experienced will affect the coming months until the Mercury retrograde station in July at 16 Leo which will retrograde back to 5 Leo. I’ll write more about that in early July.
You can find out more about past, present, or future retrogrades by getting your copy of my book A New Look At Mercury Retrograde. Here's the Amazon link to where you can order A New Look at Mercury Retrograde to check out possible ways this Mercury retrograde effect could play out over the next 4 months. That link will also allow you to order an ebook copy on Kindle. Just make sure you get the 2016 2nd edition with the book award on the cover and not the 1997 Weiser first edition.
In part 2, we'll continue to examine what we can expect over the next 3 months now that Mercury is direct.
