At 3:58 pm PDT on June 8, Mercury enters Cancer, a sensitive and caring sign. This ends the 2 week Gemini backdrop to planets and houses we have in Gemini and Virgo, and brings Water to the forefront of those planetary Lights and life houses.
This should bring a quickening to all things related to Mercury in our charts. Because it made its Superior conjunction at 10 Gemini at the end of May, it has begun to slow, preparing to go retrograde in mid-July at 16 Leo, a liberating initiatory degree.
When in Cancer it is ruled by the ever-changing Moon, so be flexible as you learn to sense the flow which will be productively anchored by Mercury’s sextile to Venus in Taurus. It enters Leo on June 26 making a quintile to Venus, so the month is favorable between our Mercury and Venus sectors. This month begin getting all your affairs in order as once Mercury moves into its shadow zone at 5 Leo, the retrograde effect begins to take place.
Mercury in Cancer gives us a more caring view of things, a sensitive mind which takes feelings into account. This will allow us to cultivate more receptivity and find views which will both protect us and nurture us. And for better or worse, on entering Cancer Mercury makes an immediate square to Saturn and then Neptune a few hours later. This heralds the major shifts to come at the Solstice when the Sun makes those same squares!
Be positive, be open, and find that which nurtures your caring mind. Cultivate “active defense” if appropriate, remaining balanced and disciplined. This opens new ideals, new perspectives, challenges any narrowness in our thinking, and requires a degree of restraint, since not all new opportunities should be accepted for reasons we don’t yet know.>
Stay open to new types of feeling insights these next 3 weeks, but without defensiveness or needless suspicion. Open to new allegiances, new cares, new ways to nurture self and others, and new ways to feel your way into knowing what to say. Be thoughtful, kind, and aware, and you could have your Soul recognized in new ways by others. In Cancer, the mental principle will be more sensitive and caring and more open to “feeling-knowing.”
Mercury’s transit of Gemini brought new perspectives about the many life events Jupiter in Gemini brought us which were shaped by the transits of the Sun and Venus in that sign. Now Mercury outraces all the other planets into the zones the Sun and Venus will transit over the next few weeks.
The first thing Mercury encounters is the pair of squares made to Saturn and Neptune. However, if we skillfully manage our responses to these squares, we’ll get important information about how to handle it in the days after the Solstice when the Sun will conjunct Jupiter and both will square Saturn and Neptune. That shows this will be a Summer of intense changes. Be objective, find humor, and be alert for the appearance of new leaders, new avatars of thought and action.
Initiative is in the air, as is impatience. Be moderate, balanced, and disciplined in your responses, since these squares between two major pairs of heavyweights, the Sun with Jupiter and Saturn with Neptune, promise intense frictional action. Be cautious and remember to guard what you hold valuable.
For now, face forward, since you can get a lot of Mercury-related things accomplished this month before it enters its shadow zone at 5 Leo. We should be able to get a lot done and stabilized due to the favorable aspects to and from Mercury for most of the second half of the month.
Gather whatever you need to in order to secure your present and future and get ready to do a retrograde review beginning mid-August. June’s squares to Saturn and Neptune give us a heads up with volatility from Venus square Pluto and Mars square Uranus. Best to be cautious and set up pre-emptive practical defenses. We’re getting a view of things to come next year, so learn to “think in the future.”
